THE OMAHA DAILY BEE: SUNDAY, JUNE 7, 100.1. 10 COMMERCIAL AND FINANCIAL Jt VL and Provisions AH 8how Weakness on B'.'trd of Trade. MANY BULL INFLUENCES AT VORK Vlrr Weather, Lower Cablea nd Otatelde "elHag Coatribate Rednce Prices Packers j . !! Park. CHICAGO, June . Wheat opened weak and. although the market steadied lonu what later In the session, the close allowed a luaa for July of fcfeHc Corn closed firm at a shade lower than yesterday. Oats closed strong at a gnin of Hyc. Pro Visions were down fiic to 15c. General selling by commission houses caused the early weakness In wheat, July showing a loss at the opening of UUHc to Vrtc, at 76e to 7&o. Wenther Improve ment, lower cables and outsldo liquidation Were the Influences and, although buying order became more numerous after the first half hour. Inducing a better feeling, the market never recovered the early loss. Docal traders were still Inclined to the bull side and under their manipulation July went to 7&1.0, the close being steady at 75c, a loss of VifSc. Clearances of wheat and flour were eual to Ha,6n0 bu. Primary receipts were 2;.3"0 bu.. against 170,900 bu., a year ago. Minneapolis and Duluth reported receipts of 217 cara. which with local receipts of 'Hi cars one of con tract grade made total receipts for the three points of 245 cars, against 151 cara a year ago. The cables and the weather caused com mission houses to be heavy sellers of corn also early In the day and the opening showed considerable weakness, but some of the early sellers, rvhen wheat took sn up ward tendency, became buyers and the market firmed up fully recovering the early loss. Crop reports were rather bullish and local traders bought freely late In the day. The close was steady at the high point, 484c. a shade below yesterday s close. Local receipts were 402 cars, with 25 of contract grade. A rush of selling orders caused a decline In oats at the opening, but later the mar ket became strong, the close showing July MtKMtC higher after ranging between bW and 37c. The strength was largely due to the drouth situation In the east. Cash de mand was poor. Local receipts were 1S8 Cars. The provisions market weakened on sell ing of pork credited to some of the large C ackers and of ribs by brokers. The mnr et was steady early In sympathy with the hog situation, but on free offerings with no support, prices could not hold nnd closing figures were 15c lower for September york at 1 16. HO; IWj74o for lard at SS.87, and c down for ribs at I9.12V4- Estimated receipts for Monday: Wheat, 45 cars; corn, 475 cars; oats, 206 cars; hogs, 80.000 head. KANSAS CITY, June 6. There was no live stock market here today on account of the floods. JEW YORK STOCKS AND BONDS, Less Llqnldatlon on Wall Street and Operations Chiefly Professional. NEW YORK, June 6. Today's stock mar ket was free from liquidation of the char acter that has been In evidence during the week and the operations were largely pro fessional. As stock market loans made on Friday carry over until Monday, the money conditions caused no actual pressure dur ing the Saturday session and operation based upon them were simply anticipatory and In the nature of surmises over future efforts on the part of the professional op erators. The bank statement evidently Im pressed this claea as threatening a further curtailment In loans. Instead of a decrease of not more than 83,000,000, as was antici pated, the banks snowed a decline In cash resources of 38,483,700. As the largest part of the gold for export waa not withdrawn until the middle of the week, It is esti mated that It did not figure for It full effect on the weekly average, so that the conditions of the banks Is believed to be worse rather than better than the showing bv averages. The local contraction of 17. 8317,800 reduced the reserve requirements considerably, so that the reduction In aur d'.ub was only 84.569.800. but this more than cuts In half the previous surplus, bringing It below the 85,000,000 mark. A further loan contraction seems to be Indicated for next week. The net loss in cash la attrib uted to belated withdrawals by trust corn ea nles to comply with the clearing house requirements for 6 per cent of caah reeervea which went Into effect on Juno 1. There was some early Improvement of prices which seemed to be due to covering by shcrts, but the selling after the bank state ment carried tne average level Deiow lasi night. Atchison and Union Pacific were notably- pressed for sale and the delayed planting or tne corn crop was tne mouve assigned. New York Central ran off sharply at the last to a new record. For . the week, however receipts ' have been very liberal, as there le an Increase over last week of nearly 8,6oO kead and as compared with the same week of last year the offerings are almost double. The table above will show the exact figures. Very nearly a'.l the cattle that have ar rived this week have been fat enough for killers and the greater proportion of them have .been well fattened steers of good quality. The total receipts for ths week have been the heaviest of the year to date, and It la doubtful If there have ever before been as many corn-fed steers on sale at this point In one week. Taking this fact Into consideration and the heavy runs at Chloago the market has not been In bad shape. On Monday beef steers advanced sharply and held the advance until the close of the market on Tuesday, but from that time until Friday the tendency of prices was downward. On Friday, however, there was some Improvement. As com nared with the hlah time the first of the week the prices paid yesterday were 3oy 400 lower, or Itnaioc lower man mo ciuee ui last week. 'AH kinds Of steers have suf fered In this decline, but the heavy cattle h.v hen the hardeat to sell, as packers would buy up the light handy weight cattle first. The DUlK oi tne steers are setting from 84.30 to 34.60, with the choicer grades going largely from 34.60 to 34.76. It would take something strictly fancy to bring much above that figure. The cow market advanced also the first of the week, but tho advance has since been lost, and more too. ine maraei, nowever, Is very uneven, so that some salesmen are calling It much worse than others. As a general thing ths choicer gradea are not much it any lower, while the medium srrades. and especially those showing the effects of grasB, are very uneven and fully a dime lower, and In some cases a little more. The bulk of the cows are selling from 33.26 to 33. 85, with the choicer grades going from 38 88 up. As high as 34.66 was nuld this week for choice heifers. Bulls are selling In very much the same notchea they were a weeg ago. waives, t,nwoir k re little lower. There was practically no 'demand for stockers and readers me nrsi part ot tne week and not enough of them changed hands to make a market. Toward the close of the week the more settled weather greatly Improved the demand, but prices are still quite a little lower than they were a week or ten days ago. The general opin ion Is thai with settled weather the demand for cattle to put on grass will be quite brisk, as pastures ars of course in excellent condition. Representative sales: BEE STEERS. He. Toward the close of the market, however, prices weakened a little, so that the late sales were only about steady with yesterday. The bulk of the early Bales went from 15.75 to 8580, while the late salea went largely around 36.76. Trading was quite brisk from start to finish, so that practically every thing wae disposed of In good season. As high as 86-80 was paid for a prime load. For the week receipts have not been ex cessive for this time of the year. There is a decrease aa compared with last week amounting to about 13.000 head and as com pared with the same week of last year the decrease amounts to 17,000 head. Prices have fluctuated up and down at a rapid rate., but the week la closing a shade lower than the close of laet week. Representa tive salea: No. At. Ib. Pr. No. Av. 8h. For the week receipts have been verv light, as there Is a decrease ne compared with last week amounting to nearly 6.000 head and as compared with the corresponding week of last year the de crease amounts to about l,0tj head. Besides the receipts being .light the quiilltv has been extremely poor, so that a fair test of the market has scarcely been made. Eastern markets are quoted considerably lower, but as local packers have all been anxious for supplies and there have not been enough to fill their orders good stuff Is higher. Prices advanced about a quarter the hrst of the week nntl have not changed much since that time. The common stufT. however, has been neglected more or less all the week and cannot be quoted any higher. It cannot be aald that there has been a feeder market this week, ns practically nothing but culls has arrived nnd the de mnnd for that class of stuff Is very limited.
