CHICAGO. May 9. WHEAT Th
weather continue the moat Important
factor In th wheat situation and. aIJ4
from the frct reporiel l?t wek and
some few complalntj of lack of rain from
scattered localities, there ha been noth
ing In the way of weather severe emug'.t
to damage tne growlnc crop materially.
Some report of Herman fly damage are
reaching us, but as there la always mora
or less damage done by the several ene
mies of wheat, we do not feel alarmei at
these reports, and If nithlng more reiicut
than we have had develop". ' the crop Will

News from alnad Indicate n marked
Improvement In the general outlook thre.
The cash situation Is still healthy. Dally
sale are moderate, but In In with ihi

cea.1 of interest centerj In the May i-ption,
which Is still conxe3ted. Preparailo-i are
undor way to move out the stocks lere; a
goo.l part of the verel room being already
chartered.
We igeted lt week the advisability
of selling the Septetr.ber het. ani sr
of the same opinion now. Atoee 7Cc I'
should be a fairly rafe rr.-pisiilon. and
whlla the outlook for the new croj cn

CORN There Is a maiked lnrr?ae In
the quantity of corn arriving and also an
Improvement In the qusllty.
The demand from the east l-.a been giol
and more than enough to taks car of th
larger receipts.
While the cash de-nand confutes, tie
heavier receipt do not necessarily augur
lower prices, but we sjgecjt watcllni
these factor cloe'y as tl ( w ll er
mine the action of the market.
OATS The action of cat towards th
close of the week hn borne out our p.e
dlctlons In a cmalderable measure.
The hol ler of the May ronlrncU. ars
-inr"n rendv o tk denverv and carry
the cash oats If necessary, and It U b-t-u.nl..
.nolo und mj.e apparent dilly that
the aupplv on hand will not be enough to
go around.
There eem a very small chance of thers
being any new ota ready for market In
time for ure In July and It la becoming
pooular to buy thl option.
There I more danger from too fti-h
company on this side than there Is frim
deliveries of new oats In July, and shake
outs will probably he frequent.
W suggest rurchaes on any breaks
nnd taklnsr profit on advances.
PROVISIONS The provision market ha
been one of motlv liquidation in lsrd:
other product holding their own very well.
On the break Swift and Company and
the Cudahy Packing company were con
spicuous buyers -of lard.
May pork was erratic, celling a. high as
919.00. July and September pork eeem low
at present figure with comparison of rlh
and small stock. There surely le no pTk
mode at present prices of hogs end lo dis
count under ribs.
We look more favorably to th long side
of pork at presant and think It a purchase
on breaks.
Ribs are also good property to buy on
good break.

CATTLE There were a few bunohes of
cattle in th yard thl morning, but not
enough to make a market. The supply for
the week, though, has been very heavy, aa
there I a gain over th big run of last
week amounting? to nearly 1.O0O head snd as
compared with th corresponding week of
last year receipt are nearly double. Th
table of comparative receipts abov will
how the exact figures.
The big bulk of the receipt all th week
ha been made up of beef steer and th
quality has been abov th average. In
spite of the big run the demand ha been
sufficient to prevent any serious break in
prices. Besides th local buyer there were
several outald buyers, so there waa a
good outlet for all that arrived. The first
part of the week, In view of th enormou
receipt, pecker succeeded In taking off a
little, but the latter part of the week the
loss wa Just about regained and the mar
ket may be quoted practically steady for
the week. On Friday packer did not take
hold of the heavy rattle very good, but the
same wa true the previous Friday, so that
even the heavy cattle ehow very little
change. The bulk of the fair to good cattle
sell from 34.60 to 34 80. with the choicer
grade going largely from 34.15 to 85.00. find
a strictly choice bunch would undoubtedly
sell considerably above that figure. The
part fat cattle ell largely from 84.00 to
34 50.
The supply of rows and heifers ha not
been verv excessive snd there Is not much
change in th market. The first of the
week packer took off a little, but the loss
waa regained by the close of the week. In
some oaaes the medium grades, such as are
selling from 33 80 down, are a little lower,
owing probably to the fact that cows show.
Ing the effect of grass ere beginning to r
rlve at some of the market and are liable
to put In their appearance here at any
time. Canner are selling isrgelv from 82.no
to 32.75. medium grade from 8300 to 13.80
and th better grade from 13.80 to 84 50.
Bulls hav sold freely all th week and
may be quoted tady. There ha been a
big run of veal calve at all point thl
week and a a result price have taken a
drop of fully 50c. Top calve are now sell
ing at 84.00, as against 86.50 Inst week, and
occasionally a calf brought 36 75 last week.
The stocker and feeder market ha also
been going down hill at a rapid rate. The
demand from the country has not baen up
to expectation. o that all kind may be
quoted 254160c lower than a week ago. th
greatest decline being on the commoner
grade It now take something fancy to
bring over tl 50. Tbe choice grade are now
selling from 34 30 to 34 65. medium kind
from 3400 to U 98 ant! th commoner grade
from 34 00 down. .
jj0rj9xhere ws a light run of hogs thl
morning. ven for a Saturday, and the
market opened lut about steadv with yes
terday' general market. Trading though
was not particularly ctlve and toward the
close the market weakened and the last
hogs sold '44?ro lower. The bulk of the
good weight hog sold at 34 $2 and 34
and prime heavle old a high a 84 70. Th
lighter loads went from 960 down. The
light receipt soon brought the market to
aFor''he week' receipt show an Increase
over lnt week, amounting to about 6 y.
and ompred with last year of 8.000
head. Th tendency of prices has been
steadily downward nd a compared with
the clv of last week the decline amount
to 10015c Today's decline take the market-
