THE OMAHA DAILY BEE: SATURDAY, MAY 9, l!)03. TWELVE INNINGS AND LOST Omaha Drops Hsra Game to ths Qniin Tnb AfUr Long Fight rULL OF ERRORS AND HARD HITTING Two fltrhera Froaa the Horn Teaai Batter for Maar safeties. Before 1,0.10 fans anj enthusiasts (ha Des Moines team took the second game of the series from Omaha after twelve Innings of fast and exciting p ay by a teore of 6 to 4. For the first few Innings It loilej a If yesterday's play had taken ill of the gin ger out of everybody, and Ihey fielded loosely and comported themselves In a nanner anything but handome. Omaha played a magnificent gamo In the fiell after the score was tied In the sixth and supported Bruner welt. But the Rourkiltei were weak at the stick and did n"t seem to be able to hit the ball wh-sn a hit would bring In a run. It was distinctly a battle of the batters and honors were about aven. Johnson was put In the box In the be ginning of the game and started out by giving the first two men up free passes to first. Then Towns hit the ball to ratter son and went out at first, while the other two advanced a base. O'Leary was up next and he waited patiently and drew a third pass to first. Meanwhlli a ball got through Thomas and one man scored and another came In on a wild pitch. Things looked dusty and Bruner was substituted tn the box. Qulnn Immediately singled anl brought In a run, but that was the last of the run-getting for the Inning. Rourkea Gather Some Haas. In the third tho Rourka family got their first run, Thomas gurgling over the plate on a base on balls, a single and an error by Backoff In leftQeld. In the next Inning Preston started It out right by laying the ball out In rlghtfield for two bags. Wright dubbed one over to O'Leary and was ou'. at first by a mile. Then ' Dolan, Stewart and Patterson all drew singles and FreMon scored In a blase of glory. Thomas drove one out to Backoff In the left garden, anl he dropped It and Dolan came In. Things looked prosperous for Omaha, but Bruner truck out and Stewart was caught trying to steal home while Patterson was getting to second. In the fifth they got another when two men were out. Wright drove the ball 'way out In the sun garden and gained three bags on It and came In on an error of Dur kee's. That was the last of the scaring for Omaha, although several times they lookei as if v they had an easy getaway. In the tenth they got three men on bases, with no one out, and let themselves be counted out. The Qulnn cranks got the score that tied In the sixth on a single of O'Leary's and a whacking double of Quinn's. In the eighth they had a man on first and one on third when Fohl knocked a foul over near the south bleachers and Wright caught him out after a long run. 'p Horror of the Twelfth. The twelfth was an unhappy one for the Bourkeltes. Bruner del.verei the first man up a pass and then he crept around to third on a sacrifice and a fieldera' choice and came in on a single by Backoff. Tnat wu the run that won the game. The sama teams . play today at Vinton street. Henderson will pitch for Omaha and Feeney for the visitors. On Sunday Papa Bill will try Milton, the new man f roniwthe. St. Louts Nationals, I who has. been added to the bevy of wingers. Ha Is a . daisy.
