only momentary, for with selling by pit

Active support was lacking and weakness
continued till the close, which showed a
loss on May of e at 77c. July closed
HHe lower at 72472c. Clearances of
wheat and flour were equal to 85.00
bushela. Primary recelpie were 846,000
bushels against 216.000 bushels a year ago.
Minneapolis and Duluth reported receipts
of 174 cars, which with local receipts of
20 cars, none of contract grade, made total
receipts for tbe three points of 194 ear
against 10 cars last week and 188 car
year ago.
A good commission houae demand for
both May and July corn was responsible
fur the stretch which was manifested In
the pit and with little on the market at
any time the firmness was well maintained.
Higher cables had a strengthening Influence
at the opening and with a good cash de
mand with small receipts, local shorts were
considerably alarmed at the prospects and
covered freely. The weakness In wheat
had little effect on corn values and closing
prices were firm. May being iHe higher
at 45X4e and July unchanged at 45Hc
Local receipts were 49 cars none of con
tract grade.
Oats started strong, helped by the bullish
tendency In corn and on small receipts,
but at the higher figures Influential sell
ing by commission houses caused a reac
tion and the market broke quite badly.
July declining Vc Prices were eteady, the
latter part of the session and July closed
Ho lower at SVc. with May a shade lower
at J44e. Local receipts were loo cars.
There waa considerable realizing In pro
Tlslons by local longs, but offerings were
well taken by brokers and prices held
steady. July pork closed unchanged at
$17.47V4: July lard was 2V4o lower at J9.62V4.
9 85 and ribs were off a ehade at 19.65

market gave abundant evidence that the
professional traders hsd it entirely to
themselves. The outside public was not
in the market. The disposition of traders
was plainly to get out of their holdings
of long stork. Some stress was laid in the
osb1d of the street upon a fear that the
situation created bv Russia's new demands
In Manchuria might develop a crisis. But
the government securities of the nations
most Interested cave no intimation that
such a crisis might become acute over
Sunday. Of more Immediate effect was the
renewed weakness caused In Metropolitan
Street Railway bv the Intimations of mat
ter for Investigations by the district at
torney's office In the affairs of the corpora
tion. Metropolitan Street Railway Itself
dropped 3 points: Metropolitan securities
and the other , local tractions a point or
more In sympathy. Tbe market waa mostly
a waiting one until the appearance of the
bank statement, which was regarded as
favorable, although the cash Increase did
not enuar the maximum estimates of yes
terday. The loan decrease of $4,682,200
contributed to raise tbe percentage ot re
serves to deposits, the surplus rising $4.

Bonds have fared rather better than
stocks this week In spite of dull market.
Some buying of new bond Issues and of
4 per cent railroad bonds selling below par

half of 1 per cent, and the 3's coupon
per cent. The new 4's advanced half as

same course as the trade on steers. The

ward, but on Thursday and Friday the

sold largely from 34.00 to 34. 00 fair to good
from 43.00 to 34.00. and the common to lair

There waa an active demand for bulla all
the week, and If anything prices are a

last week. Oood !at bulls are selling
largely from 33.75 to 14.2b, with the com
moner Unas going from 33.60 down; Veal
calves and stags commanaed about steady
prices all the week.
Good to choice stockers and feeders have
been ready sellers all the week, and the
tendency of prices has been undoubtedly
upwaid. The best grades have been s-11-Ini
from 34.60 to S5.O0. or. in other words.
good feeders have been selling almost as
high as good fat cattle. Fair to good feed
ers have sold from 64.00 to $4.&u, and the

HOGS There was a moderate run of hogs
here this morning and the market opened
fairly active and a little stronger. The
bulk of the offerings was disposed of In
rood season, but toward the close packers
seemed to have their more urgent orders
filled and as a result tne ciose was a little
slow and weak. The bulk of the sales
went from 27.05 to $7.10 and as high aa 37.1.5
was paid for prime heavies. The light stud
sold irom si.wva uown.
For the week receipts show an Increase
over last week amounting to about 7.000
head and aa compared with the same week
of last year there la an Increase amount
ing to about 9,000 head. For the year to
date, however, there Is a decrease of about
118.000 head. Prices have fluctuated back
and forth to quite an extent this week, but
closing prices are about 57V4c lower than

SHEEP There were no fresh receipts of
fat sheep and lambs here this morning, ao
that a test of the market has not been
made since Thursdsy. For the week re
ceipts are about 4,000 short of the supply
of last week, but there Is an lncreaae over
the corresponding week of last year
amounting to about 11,000 head. The most
noticeable feature of the trade haa been
the scarcity of good stuff. In fact with the
exception of a very few loads everything
haa been on the part-fat order. Packers
do not seem to want that class of stuff and
as a result trading has been extremely
slow, with the tendency of prices down
ward. Well fattened stuff, it is thought.
