Day's Baslaees.
CHICAGO, April 15. Bull.sh foreign sd
vleee caused strength In wheat today and
May closed bc higher, with July aiso up
V4j '4c. May corn m c high-'r and oaia
SwVjc better. Provisions were barely
steady, the May products closing unchanged
to 24c lower. - .
Wheat ruled active, with covering by
horta one of the principal features, open
ing prlcea were airong on higher caoies
and on amall receipt, May being 4'u4c
higher at V74f774c and July 4B4c higher
at 714fe714c. At the atari the Northwest
waa Inclined to sll July and commission
houaea sold both May and July, which re
aulted In a amall decline. May seiniiH oiT
to 764c and July down to 71c. Tha leading
long replenished tils holding at the low
figure and the maricet readily responded to
the demand and turned strong again. The
higher outside market, and the bulllxh for
eign newa, combined with a good export de
mand, gave shorts considerable cause for
alarm and there waa a ttrm demand from
that aourca throughout the greater part of
the day and prlcea held decidedly strong.
After selling up to 774c May closed V(4c
higher at 7i'4c, while July closed with a
?ain of 4&4c at 714ti'714c, after touching
2c. Clearances of wheat and Hour were
equal to 214,100 bu; primary receipts were
Uti.tuO bu., against 2M,o bu. a year ago.
Minneapolis and Duluth reported receipts
of 134 cars, which, with local receipt of 4
care, 1 of contract grade, made total
receipta for the three polnta of 138 cais,
against lift) cara last week and 144 cars a
year ago.
Trading In corn was active and the vol
ume of business waa fairly large, with
covering by ahorta the feature. Wet
weather, present and prospective, and a
good cash and commission house demand
were the main bull factors. Tha strength
In wheat waa also a factor later in the
dav. Closing prlcea were near the top,
with May Sc higher at 444c, after selling
between 444c and 444c. Local recelpia
were 64 cars, none of contract grade.
There waa a moderate amount of trading
In oate, with quite general commission
house business early, but later the market
developed Into largely a local affair, here
was more pressure on May than July, the
latter being Influenced by fears for the
new crop due t the late seeding. Thu
strength In wheat and corn was a support
ing feature, as were the small receipts. The
close was strong, with May Va4 higher
at 33V&334c, after ranging between 334c
and 334c. Local receipts were 54 cars.
Provisions were dull and featureless and
prices had a somewhat easier tendency, aue
to the lower hog market. Packers snowed
a disposition to support tha market on all
weak spots. Closing prices were steady,
with May pork 24c lower at 87.974; May
lard unchanged at 19.80, and ribs wre oft
2Vc at f9.74.
Estimated receipts for tomorrow W heat,
20 cara; corn, 65 cara; oats, 90 cars; hogs,
21,000 head.
Tha leading futures ranged aa follows:

CATTLE There was another Heavy run
of cattle here today, and as other points
were quoted as much as a dime lower the
tendency on the part of packera was to
pound the market here also. The demand,
though, wa, of liberal proportions, so that
the break In prices was not very serious.
The beef steer market opened rather slow
and buyers were bidding 5g10c lower than
yesterday's general market. It was evi
dent, though, that there wbb a icood de
mand for the better grades, so that sales
men held on for better prices, and In a
good many cases they did not have to sell
much of any lower than they did yesterday.
In other cases, though, they had to take
off 6Sj'10c before they could dispose of their
cattle. The commoner grades as a general
thing suffered the most. Trading wan not
very active at any time, but still the bulk
of the offerings was disposed of In fairly
good season.
The cow market did not show much
change from yesterday. Owing to the
weaker feeling on beet steers cow nuyers
did not take hold with quite ss much life,
but as a general thing the desirable grades
brought right close to steady prices. It
there was any meanness at an it was on
the less desirable kinds.
Bulls, veal calves and stsgs all sold at
Just about the same prices that were paid
yesterday.
The demand for stockers and feeders of
good quality waa again quite liberal, so
that anything at all decent sold readily In
vesterdav'a notches. The Inferior grades.
though, were neglected the same as has,
been the case lor some time psst. 'mere
were not many stock cattle on aale, so an
early clearance was made. Representative

HOGS There was another fairly liberal
run of hogs here this morning and the
market opened rather slow and fully ec
lower. Oiher markets were quoted lower,
so that selltrs had to take the prices
offered, and, although trading waa not par
ticularly active, still the bulk of th ar
rivals was out of first hands In good
season and they sold generally a nickel
lower. The medium weights sold largely
from 17.15 to 17.20, with the choice heavy
weights going from 87.30 to 17.30. The light
weights went from 17.16 down. The last
end of the market was a little slow and
the tendency waa to buy the late arrivals
a little easier. Representative sales
