CATTLE There was another big run of
cattle her this morning, which makes the
supply for the two days this week consid
erably In excess of the same daya of last
week and also of last year. The local de
mand, though, was In good shape, so that
the market was very satlifuctory to tha
telling Interests.
Packers took hold of the beef stes'i quite
freely and the handy weight catt.e were
active and steady. The heavy cattle aold
rather unevenly, so that some salesmen
thought they got as good prices ss they
Hid yesterday, while others quoted the
market little lower. It was very evident
that packers wanted the light and tidy
weights, whereas they were Inclined to be
rather Indifferent toward the heavyweights,
specially If they were plain. There were
quite a few good cattle In the yards today,
as will be seen from the sales below.
The cow market was active and steady.
Supplies were not very heavy, so that an
early clearance was made. The handy
weight cows and heifers continued In the
beet demand, while the common cutters
and canners were again alow and hard to
aell at any price. '1 he heavy cows were
generally steady, but In spats they looked
little easier.
Bulla, veal calves and stag did not show
enough change from yesterday to be worthy
of mention.
There waa another liberal supply of
itockers and feeders on hand this morning,
and aa the demand from the countrv ye
teiday was rather disappointing, the' tend
,rc of prlcea was downward. There were
not very many fancy cattle on hand, so
that prices on that class did not how
much change, but all others were rather
siow and a iittie lower. Kepreit.-itatlva

NEW YORK, April 7.-COTTON-Opened
firm at an advance of 1S7 points and imme
diately following the call displayed activity.
May selling up to 10.40c and July to 9.99c;
this being a new higher record for the
season. The Initial strength waa due to a
continued buying In the old crop portions
by May a lid July-shorts, but the shorts
were about only buyers, and while the Liv
erpool market made a fair response to the
New York advance of Monday port receipts
were heavy and the market, 'after a brief
interval of irregularity, turned decidedly
weak under liquidation. During the bal
ance of the sesclon prices displayed an un.
Interrupted downward tendency, though to
ward the close there was an Improvement
for the lowest of 8 points In May and about
2 points on the list generally as a result of
further covering, with the market Anally
barely steady at a net decline of 6 points
to an advance of 1 point. Total sales fu
tures estimated at 200.000 bales. A factor
In the declining tendency was the talk of
shipments to be made to this port for de
livery on May contracts. It was argued
that the high level attained by values In
the local market permits of the better
frades being shipped here from Liverpool,
t was said that about 40.000 bales were be
ing held In the south for f hlpnifnt to New
York for delivery should the bull clique
call for actual delivery on May holdings,
and this naturally encouraged room shorts
to maintain their position, while It also
brought about renewed sales by commission
houses, who took profits for the long ac
count. The bull pool also was credited with
selling May.
