NEW ORDER ON TIIE ELKHORN
Numbers of All Locomotives and Stations
Are to Be Changed at Onoe.
TO CONFORM WITH NORTHWESTERN ROAD
Engineers and Flremea Are Da
Draws froaa Elkhorm Dtvialom
to Work ea Horthera
at lehltrajt Llaea.
' The first rsdlcal change ' mads by the
Northwestern on ths Nebraska and Wyo
ming division of the road since the chance
of name and officers has Just been brought
forward. The locomotives are to be re
numbered at once and the numbers of ths
stations are also to be changed In con
formity with other Northwestern stations.
. From ths head offices at Chicago also
comes ths notice that the annual shortage
of firemen and engineers In the lumber and
Iron or districts In northern Michigan Is
to b filled In part from this division.
All of the engines In the division, with
ths exception of the fifteen in class "Q"
and tha narrow gang engines on the lines
In Wyoming and South Dakota, are to be
given numbers la tb 1200s. The narrow
gauge engines will b In the 1300s and the
class "Q" engines In 'he 1100s.
Under the Ekhorn management the
stations were numbered from 1 to 718.
These numbers have been changed so that
they run from 6,003 to 7.065. This change
will make the work of station sgents and
telegraphers much slower for some time,
as tbey are not familiar with the new
numbers snd will have to spend some time
learning them.
From Chicago has com ths request tor
fifteen firemen and twelve engineers from
ths Nebrsiks and Wyoming division to
work during ths summer months on ths
Escanaba branch In northern Michigan.
The men young In the business, not as
signed to regular duty, have taken ad
vantage of this opportunity to receive reg
ular work and better pay, with the un
derstanding that their absence from the
division does not Interfere with their
chances of promotion. Ths division csn
well afford to spare these men at this
time, owing to the falling off In the stock
and grain business. In the fall, when the
ore and lumber trade grows slack, they
will return to this division for duty.
