charges have been Bled with the president
against aa attorney formerly an agent of
the Pest office department. The charges 'n
volve certain present officials of the de
partment, but they are of such s eiature
that, at this time, tbey cannot be disclose J.
Tbe charges were placed in tbe handa of
the president by T. C. Campbell, an at
torney of Cincinnati, representing one or
more of the turf investment concerns which
recently closed their doors.
It la understood that the chief allegation
Is that the attorney la question received
a large sum of money from the Investment
companies for preparing an opinion declar
ing their operations to be legitimate. He
Is also alleged to have promised protection
to tbe coups nies by government officials.
When the matter was brought to the
president's attention he regarded It as so
serious that be ordered an Immediate and
searching Investigation to be made. AH
those cognizant of the facta are extremely
reticent, but It Is known that the president
has directed that no means be left untrlud
to unearth tbe facta and to punish the
guilty.
President's Trip Oatllard.
It Is reasonably certain now that Presl
fJsnt Roosevelt will start from Waahlngtoa
oa his western trip on April 1. Several
senators discussed the subject wltb him
today, all being anxious to induce him to
make stop rn thetr states.
The Itinerary of the Journey, which will
occupy at least two tnontha and perhaps
longer, la being prepared. Indeed, many
of the details bare already been worked
out tentatively on the basis of starting ths
first of April.
The greater part Of April will be spent
In the Yellowstoae park In reat aad rerrea
tlon, but several Important stopt will be
made by the president enroute to the park.
He will go from Washington to Chicago.
Thence to Milwaukee, La Croase and Mad.
laon, Wis.; Minneapolis and St. Tsui. Minn.;
Yankton. S. D., and perhaps to some other
points east of the Yellowstone. In the lat
ter part of April he will start for Bt. Louie
to participate In the dedicatory exercises
of the Louisiana Purchase exposition
grounds on April Jo. From there be will
go to ttie Pacific coast, making many stops
enrouta.
During his stay in California tbe preel
dent will vlalt the Toeemite valley. The
trip Includes a Journey to and numerous
stops In the northwestern atatea. It will
he a long and arduoua trip, but promises
to be one of the most memorable ever made
by a president.

NEW TORK. March 14 Henry S. Loorais,
the J-year-old eon of Dr. and Mrs. Henry
P. Loomls, ditd today from hydrophobia,
caused by the bite of a pet spaniel.
Henry had a pet dog. a King Charles
spaniel, which seven weeks sgo saa bitten
by a strange dog in the street. Four weeks
later Henry waa romping with his pet In tbe
basement. The spaniel grew weary of the
game and curled himself up In a coror
growling. The boy picked him up to carry
him Into the house and the dog bit him In
the cheek. It also turned on the butler
and bit him.
The wounds of the man and boy were
cauterised and they were inoculated with
the Pasteur serum. Toung Henry Loomls
Complained on Thursday of pains in bis
bead snd trouble with bis Jswb. He was
too ill to get out of bd and Dr. Loomls
Immediately sent for Dr. L. A. Stimson.
He suffered many and violent convulsion,
but his death was painless, aa be passed
away under sedatives.

the Vnlted States circuit court today, heard
tbe motion filed by General Solicitor
Blodgett of the Wabash Railroad company,
aaklng that s rule be entered requiring tbe
defendants to produce, on the hearing of
tbe motion to dissolve tbe injunction next
Tuesday, various letters referred to in the
answer filed by them.
The Judge beard tbe arguments, but early
this evening refused the application.
Colonel Blodgett said that it was consid
ered Important to know the contents of
these letters In order that a full under
standing of what was done and tbe pur
poses might be had. E. N. JudBon, asso
ciate counsel tor tbe defendants, said he
was prepared to argue the motion and
Judge Adams said he would hear counsel
some time during tbe day.
Twenty-two affidavits In support of the
contentions set forth in the bill of com
plaint on which Judge Adams granted tbe
temporary injunction, restraining brother
hood leaders and others from declaring a
strike on tbe Wabash system, were filed
today by Colonel Blodgett, general solicitor
of the railroad company. Colonel Blodgett
said no new issues were presented in the
documents.
