Feb. $3 CORN Bteady; CATTLE There were several cars of cat tle reported thl morning, but not enough of them were offered for sale to make k market. For the week receipts have been quite liberal in spite of the extreme cold weather and a good Increase Is noted over the corresponding week of last year. For the vear to date there Is a gain of about lo.ooo head. The beef steer market this week has been In very sstlrlactory condition, with the tendency of prices upward. The, demand has been equal to the supply and each day's offering changed hand in good sea son. A larger proportion of the reoelpts consisted of steers than st any former time this season, but the proportion will doubt less be still lare-e in the future, as advices from the country show that the bulk of the fed coa-s have been marketed. As com pared with the close of last week It is safe to ouote steers 15c hlsher. and they are a big quarter higher than the low time of last week. The greatest Improvement has been on the handy and medium weight cattle such as have been selling from $4.00 to $4.60. That Is owing to the fact that rrom tms time on there wlU be a surplus of heavy cattle, while light and handy weight cattle will be comparatively scarce. That, how ever. Is generally the case at this Besson of the year and the range of prices usually narrow's as spring approaches. Ths top price paid for steers this week has been $6.00, but a strictly prime bunch would sell above that figure. . The cos market has slso been active and strong all the week snd a net gain of 27c Is reported and In some canes the advance has been as much as Sic. This advance applies to culler and cornfed. Cannrrs have not been In very strong demand and prices are only about steady as compared with the close of last week. earners sell larpeiy from $.flo to $2.76, the medium grsdes from $2.76 to $3.26 snd choicer kinds from $3.26 to $4.26. Veal calves have been active I and steady, top grades bringing $6.2s. The stocker and feeder market has shown very little change this week. Offerings hsvs been light and the quality poor, and prices ; may be quoted Jjst about steady. The ad vance In the price of fat cattle this week I has taken the a-armed-un cattle out of the reach of feeder buyers, so that practically j I notning tnai 110s reen tea corn now sell j for feeders.
