The congregation ot the' First Baptist
tuun-h probably will erect a new church
building on Twenty-ninth avenue, between
; Howard and Farnara streets. At the last
meeting of the church the committee was
authorized to enter ln'o contract with tho
owners of properly In that vicinity by
which the church will exchange Its lot at
Thir'y-flfth and Karnam streets for the
new site, paying a difference of $1,000. The
next meeting of the church will be held
Wedncmlay, at which time It Is expected
that a deed will be authorized, the delay
being caused by the rule of the church,
which require notice .of meeting to be
given.
It is the expectation of the committee to
b"Kln the construction of the new building
as soon as possible. The church has In its
treasury about 13,000, and an equity of
jrohably $2,(;00 in the present building on
I'ark avenue, giving a working capital of
about 1.1,000, and It Is thought that the ad
ditional M'l.fluo which the church Is ex
pected to coat can easily bo raised by sub
scription among the members, nn the church
has Increased Its membership largely in
the last few months.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kern have gone east
to buy goods, returning In about two weeks.

Pennsylvania, the Southern, the Chicago &
Northwestern and tho Rock Island. Ac
cording to a loca4-authority heavily Inter
ested in the road the contest has narrowed
down to tho Pennsylvania and the Southern.
