are hard to see, harder to hit, and the har
poon will penetrate only the least accessible
portion of the body. Nor does tba title to

and boatman were capsized. As my rifle
had fortunately been left upon the bank, I
waa sble to ktll the alligator again. Ws
secured him by floating the bot under him
and then balling it out. Tha alligator com
pletely filled the boat, so that my com
panion and I tat upon bis back aa we pad
dled down the river with gunwales unpleas
antly near the water.
It was growing very dark and tba water
around us was becoming alive with alliga
tors. While we were reflecting upon our
overloaded condition eur alligator earn to
Ufa again and shifted ballast until water
poured over the guawal. W quickly bal
anced the boat, only to see It again dis
turbed and to ship more water. A scramble
for the shore followed, which we reached
without capsizing, and where we left our
victim for the night after again killing
