The Iowa Prokers' association held a
meet lag at the Millard hotel yeaterday.
Thia Is a new ergaaliatloo which has
been created by fourteen mercantile firms
of Weetera Iowa for the purpose of pur
chasing suppllea. The officers of the ssso
elation send notices to the manufacturers
and Jobbers stating that the members will
convene at a certain place for the purpose
of Inspecting samples and placing orders.
The representatives of the Jobbing houses
are pre it with samples and the orders
are plsce-d.
The president of the association Is B. H.
Gavltt rt Missouri Valley. At this session
the members are purchasing clothing. Feb
ruary 12 they will meet at th same hotel
for the purpose ot purchasing dry goods.
The Omaha Jobbers and manufacturers will
probably be la th contracts for manufac
tured goods, sack as shirt and overalls,
while the clothing sales will probably be
placed In Chicago.
The Missouri Valley Saddlery association
wes la aeasioa at the Millard hotel yester
day. The association Is composed of Jobbers
from Omaha, St- Joaepb, Lincoln aad Stoux
City. About twenty members are present.
The association meets to consider questions

The proposed conference between tho re
tall grocers and the representatives of tha
labor unions will be held Thursday evening.
The committee of the Retail Grocers' aaso
cistion having the matter In charge has In
vited representatives from Lancaster and
Otoe counties in addition to those from
Douglas county to bo present. Some of tbe
representatives from Lincoln and Dunbar
are members of the Nebraska Retail Mer
chants' association and are fully advised aa
to the desires of tbe association on mat
ters of legislation. It Is expected that they
will throw light on the subject for the ben
efit of the members ol the Douglas county
delegation who may not have full knowl
edge of the subject.
Several of the labor organ! xatlons have
Indicated their Intention of having repre
sentatives present, and It Is hoped by the
promoters of tbe meeting that tbe chair
man of tbe legislative committee of tbe
State Society of Labor and Industry will be
present, so that If a bill Is formulated
which meets tbe approval of the labor
onions It msy be arranged so that tbe state
society will unite with the merchants in
kpuahlng It through tha legislature.
Female Labor Law.
The meeting will not be confined to a
discussion of tbe proposed garnishment law,
but will take up the female labor law, tho
label law and such other messures as tb
people preaeot may be Interested In. It
Is ssld on good authority that certain In
terests are combining to appear before tbe
legislature and auk that the present female
labor law be smended to permit women to
work more than ten hours a day. This Is
being urged by certain manufacturers who
saaert that It Is prscticslly Impossible to
secure skilled help for abort periods, and
that they are forced to decline business be
cause of the Impossibility of delivering
goods whea needed unless they are per
mitted to work their female employes
longer than ten hours a day In emergencies.
