In the beat exhibition of fo?t ball geeu
tn Council Bluffs since the days of tbe
big games between Iowa and Nebraska tbe
Dodge Light Guards yesterday afternoon
defeated tbe Iowa State Normal on Manawa
field by a score of 16 to 11. The sixteen
points made by the Guards consisted of
three well-earned touchdowns and one goal,
while the visitors had, to their credit a
touchdown, a goal and a safety. It was
by good, straight, hard play that the Guards
crossed the goal line of their opponents
for each of the three touchdowns, while
the visitors secured their touchdown by a
spectacular play that gave them an easy
try for goal, and their safety accrued to
them through a kick by the Guards that
rebounded from tbe Guards' own line.. From
start to finish It was ever apparent that
tbe local team was the stronger; even
In the aecond half, when It was expected
the Guards would show the lack of training
as against their wcll-lralned opponents,
they stood up to tbe play and saw the
battle out like the men of the gridiron
they have proved themselves to be, by
never being beaten.
The Guards again, as on tbe occasion
of tbe game with Highland Park, showed
excellent Interference and seldom failed to
gain ground. Tbey relied on no particular
style of play to jnak their gains, but
made progress either at bucking tbe line or
by end runs. In the latter plays Dietrich
and Dalley were good for gains right along,
and when a line play was undertaken Wil
liams was tbe best material.

The game opened with the klckoff by
the Normal. The Guards began working th
ball right down the field and war within
twnty-flv yarda of th goal line when
tbey loat the ball on penalty. They soon
recovered It on downs and at the end of
ten minute after th gam bad commence!
Bailey bad been sent over for a touchdown,
circling the end. Thomas kicked a difficult
goal. Score, ( to 0.
After five minute' more play the Normal
held the Guards aad forced tha Utter to
punt. Dewell broke through and blocked
the ball, and Pall, who waa right wtth
him. grabbed K and bad a clear field for
forty yarda to Ike goal line, plaating tba
