IMPORTANT POINTERS About the Omaha Commercial College. POINTER NO 1 Monday mnrnlne. TVpemher 1. new classes will be organised In all dpartments. That will be a good time to begin. POINTER NO. i. A large number of students have entered during the month of November. Every department Is running In full blast. The meetings of our Board of Trade and Literary Society are unusually Interesting. The Actual Busi ness Department Is doing the best work It hss ever done. The attendance in the Telegrsph Department Is largely Increased. Many new student will enter all de partments Ir December. The Law School has a large attendance. The entertain ment given last Friday night wa a great auccess. Between 6t)0 and 700 people were present. POINTER NO. $. The system of Shorthand you learn Is highly Important. The Pltmanlc systems have become back numbers. They are too tllttleult for the ordinary student. Pure Gregg Is Insufficiently developed to admit of a high degree of speed or legibility. It is far better to Investigate thoroughly before hand, than to afterwards regret having made a serious mistake. We are teaching a system of Shorthand which possesses the following time great requisites: (at Wonderful speed, (b) Legibility equal to longhand, (c) Easy to learn. It will pay you to call at the college and observe a practical demonstration of the wonderful results we now obtain by the use of a modern and up-to-date system of shorthand. POINTER NO. 4. We recently made a comparison of six words between Gregg and Improved Gregg. The Improved outlines occupied about half the space of the Gregg outlines. It was claimed by some Gregg writers that It was an unfair com- isrlson, and In order to make It fair an article must be written in botn systems, n the November number of the Phonographic World of New York City on opposite pages will be found the same general article, written In Gregg and Improved Gregg. The Gregg notes were written bv Pearl Power, associate author of the Gregg system and principal teacher of the Gregg school In tne same sue, but tne improved uregg is written mucn more in fun, terminations not being dropped to the extent they are In the Gregg system. In this comparison It required 80 five-Inch lines for the Gregg, and but WH four and a half-Inch line, for the Improved Gregg. It will be observed that the Improved Gregg occupies about 40 per cent less space and the outlines are written so full that any writer of the system can readily read them, while the Gregg outlines have been so ab breviated, by dropping terminations, that no Gregg writer Is able to read them without referring to the key. Any one calling at the college will have an opportunity of see ing tnis comparison. POINTER NO. 6. During the last month several Gregg writer holding posi tion In the city hsve called at the college and purchased Mosher text books. They state their salary will be Increased If they can Increase their speed, which Is Im possible to do In the Gregg. POINTER NO. 8. The following conversation recently took place In one of the Important business offices of Omaha, between the manager and his stenographer: Manager It must be that they tench a belter system of shorthand where you attended school than they teach at the other schools. Stenographer hy7 Manaaer Because we hnve had two tended and both of them could take dictation rapidly and read their notts accurately. We hnve had five stenographers from another si hool In the city and none of them could read their notes. One of them Is here with us now, but we have had to place her In another line of work. The two stenographers referred to. who could read their notes fluently, were writers of th Improved (IreBg. while the ones who could not read their notes were educated at a school which make a specialty of the Pit manic system.
