agent for an eastern concern was on the
ground last night and worked the mem
bers of the board before the roll was
called. No deal, as far as known, wsa
made, as at the present time the board ia
renting some machines pending the outcome
of the case in the county court. Some of
the board members are credited with say
ing that the hoard will try to compel the
Oliver company to pay rent for the ma
chines now In use, but under the circum
stances this talk Is considered mere bluff.

City officials and members of the South
Omaha Board of Health are Indignant st
what purport to be an effort on the part
of persons out in the state to unload
smallpox patients onto South Omaha. Yes
terday Frank Blats showed up at the of
fice of City Physician Sapp and wanted to
be sent to the Emergency hospital. The
request was granted without any hesita
tion. Then It developed that Blats cams
from St. Paul, Neb. He said he pad been
examined by a Dr. Davis of that place,
who told him that he had smallpox and
advised him to make bis way to South
Omaha, where he would be cared for. When
Dr. Sapp examined the patient here he
found that the eruptions had been going
on for five or alz days. Blats had money
enough to pay one week's board at Ihe
hospital, hut after that time has expired
the city will have to keep him.
At tho suggestion ot Mayor Koutsky a
letter was sent last evening to the State
Board of Health detailing the circum
stances and lt la understood that a claim
arainst the town of St. Paul will be filed.
Up to the present time the city baa had
three cases ot smallpox tbls year.

within the next few months.
Teamsters Make Demand.
At noon yesterday the local order ot the
teamsters' union msde a demand upon the
employers for an increase In wages. Thla
was granted temporarily by coal dealers
pending an agreement, which la expected
will be reached by arbitration. As for the
loading of coal and the unloading of the
same, there does not seem to be any diffi
culty, but the trouble Is about th han
dling ot building materials. Both team
sters and employers hope to have the mat
ter settled early today. In the meantime
the teamsters are working aa Usual..
Heavy Sheen Reeelpta.
There was another big run ot sheep at
the - yards yesterday, the official figures
showing 22,012 bead. This makes a total
of 1,601,300 bead up to date for this year.
It also shows an Increase of 301,170 head
over last year. Stockmen who have re
cently - come in from the west say that
the reeelpta of sheep her would be heavier
If it were possible to obtain cars. There
seems to be a scarcity not only of cars,
but of motive power along the Uses han
dling livestock destined for tbls market.
Thousands of sheep will be held over until
fcprlng on account ot the lack of transpor
tation facilities.

Yesterday Chief "of Police Brtggs sus
pended two officers for disobedience of or
ders. Jsmes Emrlck will be laid off fifteen
days without pay and Ed Gushing gets ten
days. It was stated by the chief that both
of these ' officers were found in saloons
while on duty. The chief saya be win net
tolerate actions ' of this kind and sus
pended the officers mentioned in order to
give a warning to the entire force.
