Ot all the crowd that 'Mid" the sights within the carnival grounds there were none who entered Into the spirit of the carnival with greater aest than the fashionables. Every evening has seen thorn In couples and In parties going the round of the booths and visiting the at tractions of the Midway, partaking of all lha free handouts anil everything else avail able, very much after the manner of other people. The tournament of the Transmlsslsslppl Oolf association at the Country club made that clubhouse the center of fashionable In terest last week and, In spite of the dark days and the numcrons attractions on In the rlty, society gathered there In force. Wednesday waa given over to the women, but, as a matter of fact, the women have been very much In evidence out there all the time and have helped to make the suc cess of the occasion. On Wednesday Mrs. Luther Kountte. Mrs. John McShane, Mlsa I)eey. Miss Webster, Mrs. Colpetzer, Mrs. Warren Rogers, Mra. Charles Kountze, Miss Cotton. Mlsa Peck and i..laa Doane served tea and did the honors. On Thursday Mrs. . Gulou. Mrs. Lowe, Mrs. Cowglll, Mra. Jo seph Barker, Miss Edith Bmith, Mlsa Lewis and Miss Janet Rogers were the commit tee. On Friday Mra. Sprague, Mrs. Wheeler, Mra. Love, Miss McShane, Miss Lomax, Mra. Hull, Mlsa Crane, Mlsa Allen afid Miss McShane constituted the receiving party. Yesterday afternoon all of the women were present and' the club haa not presented auch a scene since in the summer. The dinner and dance were largely attended. Evelyn, Dear: Now that the time la al most here the feminine pulse la all of a flutter, and In spite ot all assertions to the contrary, we are simply dying to know mho really la to be the queen. But, Evelyn, regardless of her Identity, she la worthy the honor he Is to bear, for thia la a secret that haa leaked out aomehow or other her gown is Dot to be a Parla affair at all, but Is being mads right here at home. In Omaha, for the dear, loyal girl declares that nothing but home talent could do full Justice to the coronation gown for our own Ak-Sar-Ben. Isn't ahe worthy the homage she is to have? I think her aplrlt Is adorable and then. It's such a comfort to feel that one'a own gown Isn't to be so awfully overshadowed, even by the aueen'a. But we can't guesa who the la. Isn't It exasperating? It glvea one auch an un comfortable feeling to have auch a aecret right In our very midst. One. can't evpn talk about It with any comfort, even to her dearest friend, for who knowa but aho la telling her choicest confidence to the queen herself and will only bo laughed at when her back la fumed. Really, Evelyn, dear, I think those knights are anything but gallant to make ua bo uncomfortable by their secret methods, that don't do a bit of good and only encourage deceit among friends. I'm aure that If I should recog nize In the queen that night even you, I could never feel quite the aame toward you again. Just to think- of keeping a secret from one'a dearest friend, and auch a aecret, too. I do know one thing, though, Evelyn, dear: That la that there are to be more new gowna this year than for three yeara past. Eight of our own glrla are having lovely, fluffy, lacey things made, all ot them freah and new, too, and aeveral of the other glrla brought back gowna from the eaat when they came, and In apite of all their threata of laat year never to wear a now gown to the ball again, they are going to wear them Just the aame. See If they don't. Aa for me. this auspenae baa nearly ruined my disposition, but It'a awfully comforting to know that the queen'a gown la not com ing from Paris. KAROLYNE.
