CHICAGO. Aug. 8". Fears of frosts and other weather handicaps and big business In wheat and flour worked against the dullness of an ante-holiday market In stains today. Corn traders were on tenter ncoks over possible damage to green corn fields and as a result what changes were made In the somewhat dull markets were rr.sinly on the bull side. September wheat closed W!4c higher, September corn o ur and September oats c lower. Provi sions closed 5o lower to 15c higher. In spite of a small trade there was a firm undertone In wheat. Freeslng temperatures still lingered on the distent northern boundary of the Canadian north west and bear speculators feared frosts as a consequence. Showers were general In the spring country. Csbles were lower, Paris having lost 8 cents In two days. This, however, had little effect, as did a considerable enlargement of the receipts of new spring wheat. There was good buy ing of December here but most attention was aiven to September, which on short covering waa lifted Tic at one time. Sta tistics were of little value, this day last year having been a holiday. The exception to this was the report of 997,000 bushels of wheat and flour cleared at the seaboard a bit of news that materially strengthened the pit. September opened unchanged to Ho up at loc to 70c, sold to 71Ho and closed Arm. H&hic higher. December sold between 67H and 67to7Hc and closed steady, c up at 67Kc Local receipts were 2-" cars, 3 of contract grade; Minneapolis and Duluth reported 367 cars, making a total for the three points of 594 cars, against 46 last week. Primary receipts were 951,000 bushels. Corn was abnormally dull, but prices held firm. Cash business was at a standstill, with no sales reported. There were no outside orders received and speculators were not inclined to do anything on their own account because of the double holiday NICKEL PLATING. OMAHA Plating Co. Bee Bldg. .
