Is lw,
CTTTCAOrt, Aug. T Aftf considerable
earl? strength In grains today the tinrkm
Buffered a severe break, corn In particular.
The cause wan that tha year promised ti be
too proline to suit the build. There was a
good demand for Mgh grnri wheat, and very
little wheat of thm aort waa comlnij to
market. Thla Influence, however, could rot
otTt tha Incentive ta sell hx-lly in the
oorn pit when auppnrt wn wlthilmwn and
when porn broke Jagge'liy other grslns
dipped In sympathy. At t' clone Pp'em
nT enra waa liia lower, September wbeat
yrfHo lower and rientembt-r oats Wrr vte

There u a desire to cover abort con
tract In corn by yesterday's sellers at the
openlnir and on a fair support ay a big
huuM and scanty arrival price ahowatl
good gains, The pit crowd for a time acted
very bullish under the lead of the crowd
that bulled July stuff. New, however, waa
generally bearish. The yield for the yenr
promlees to totiil 'nearly 3.600.000 bushels.
Cable were lower and the weather wa
perfect. Trade waa not heavy-early, and
when support began to wane aellera cama
out In great number. September, which
had worked up from 6i0 to fc,c, plunged
down to 63sio and closed, after aome cover
ing, weak and ll'.io down at fif?.
Tha cash demand waa moderate. Tha feel
ing throughout the pit wa that much of
the artificial strength had been hammered
otx of corn and In aplte of tha continued
alunip, that the crowd waa overselling the
markot. Receipts were 41 care.
Tha break In corn near the close worked
Sgalnat an otherwise strong wheat market,
1 ha sympathetic selllne waa not heavy, but
M tha support fell off and excellent crop
i auvtoeo cam to nana an iwa eauy gaina
I' were loet. Trade waa light, aside from a
rood early demand by elevator Interest.
The cash demand waa excellent. Price
at a premium of a much aa 0o over Sep
i tember were being anked In the northweat.
'Considerable changing wan dona from Sep
tember to December option at a oirterenoe
of lc. The fufr.uiaed short Interest In the
market and very steady cables helped In
the earty upturn. H'!ptmber opened o
down to unchanged1 at obVo to five and ad
vanced to euc. Crop advlcea, however,
etatod that everything wa favorable. Tha
crowd wa In a inootl to bear the market,
but waa deterred until hear the close by
the cash support. A local statistician today
mad a eompsrjson between laat veer'
mrop f)guea and lite piospeotive yield for
thla year by"which all the maturing crops,
wheat, oorn and oats, excel those of laat
year by "6 per cent. When corn broke

and HInr.te.puHe and Dulirth reported 134

CATTLE There waa only a .fair run of
cattl here today, but for tha week to data
the supply Is . considerably In excess, of
the same days of last week and aUi of
lat year. Buyers took hold In good ahape
of all desirable grade of both kiUeia and
feeders, ao that the general market was
about steady with yesterday.
There wer only a few cars of corn fed
steers on sale, and the same as has been
the caae of lata, they were ahortfed
cattle and nothing strictly choice was
offered. There was no change In the mar
ket worthy of mention, aa packers bought
up what waa offered at practically steady
f. rices, but at the same time tbey were
ncllned to be bearish on tkese half fat
kind owing to the large number ot range
steers now coming forward.
The cow market waa also about- the
aama aa It waa yesterday. Supplies were
not excessive and anything at all desir
able met with ready sale at steady
prices. Ths common stuff, such as sells
below $8-00, though, was rather dull, but
still tha prices paid were about ateady.
Bulla, veal calves snd stags also sold at
good steady prices where tha quality waa
at all good.
The demand for tha better grades of
atockera and feeders was active and the
market could bo quoted ateady. The
highest price of the aeason for western
feeders, (5.60, was paid today for a bunch
of Wyoming dehorned cattle. They were
In good condition and in reality were fat
enough for killers. But while good, heavy
cattle and pripia yeturilnga are In , active
demand the common and thin atuff la
r.eglected. and If anything waa a little
lower today. - . .
There were not very many rang beof
ateera here today of good quality, but the
market held lut about ateady all around
and wa fairly active. Cow and feeder
also aold at good, steady prices where the
quality was satisfactory, but common
stuff was neglected. - Renrewmiative sales-
