Tba brutal murder of Isaac Flnkelstein, ex-po-llceman. Pes Moines, last night, ha com pletely torn up the city and today ther ha been a great deal of excitement. Ther is no doubt In the mind of anyone that th murder waa th direct result of th activity of Plnkelstetn In prosecuting gamb lers and causing the closing up ot their placea. Thla haa enraged th people greatly and caused a revolution of feeling against th gamblers. This morning two persons were arrested In connection with the crime, neither one. however, suspecter of being the actual crim inal. They were Henry Levich, a broker, who had quarreled with Flnkelstsln, and "Butch" Dellahoyt, who had been connected with th gambling bousea. It wa claimed that th former had quarreled with FlnX elsteln on several occasions and there waa bitter words. Dellahoyt waa accused of being one of the gambler who had made threats against Flnkelstetn. Purlng the Hay bloodhound were secured and an attempt wa mad to hav them trace th murderer. It 1 claimed they traced back to the barn of Lev ca' house. Dellahoyt was released and Levich i held aa a witness. Kearro trader Arrest. The police later arrested a negro named Walker on ausptcion ot being a man who murdered Isaac Flnkelsteln. Not much is known about Walker, but tbs theory is that he waa either hired by Levich to pun ish Flnkelsteln or that Levich filled him up with liquor and coaxed him to do the deed. The police will not let friends see either Walker or Levich. They assert that tnev nave a chain of circumstantial evident) gainst both of them that la all but perfect Walker waa Been about the saloons last night and made statement which leave trong suspicions against him. The fr'.ends of Levich employed an attorney to assist tlin but the detectives spirited Levich away and he could not be found. The murder wa committed at a place where usually ther are a great many per on passing along the street and it is a mytry how the crime could have occurred ther without anyone aeeing It- F nkel atetn waa quite wealthy, but had' been a member ef the police force and was greatly interested In all reform work. The, beginning of the trouble with regard to gamming bouse waa when Mayor Bren ton refused to ' tilae Flnkalatetn na the police fore. It waa claimed a promise bad been made . that Flnkelotoln should go on th force. Th mayor denied tbl. Thn Flnkelsteln claimed that a deal had ben made with th. administration by which th gamblers wer hot to be molested if they should reopen their houses. Whether this Is true or not cannot b determined, but It is certain that five or elx gambling plaoes were fitted up 'and reopened at great ex pense. . The police refused to arrest th gamblers and Flnkelsteln , commenced a erusad by swearing out warrant and hav ing tb sheriff's office serve th same. This resulted ia .closing th gambling houaea. A th result of this a great deal ef feeling, haa been engendered, not only among the gamblers, but amongsths-' officers and city official. - ( Work for Medical Board..1 Th State Board of Medical Examiners met in regular session today and had before it a number of interesting matter.
