The weekly crop bulletin of the weather
bureau waa Interpreted favorably on the
whole. Some harm waa reported to the
various grain crops by too much rain, but
relief irom droutn wa reported ror tne
cotton crop and the condition of the corn
crop was considered highly satisfactory.
The outcome of the corn crop is the dom
lnant feature In the speculative situation
and turned the scale of sentiment In favor
of the advance.
Some disappointment, waa felt over denials
of rumor that anthracite mining would
be resumed on August 1 and the coaler
and eaatern railroads generally, with the
exception of an early advance In New Tork
Central, were also stationary.
A feature or tne aay wa tne mar Xing up
of various dormant stock which have not
shared In the recent advances. This ten
dency extended to Northern Securities com
pany on tne cum, wnicn rose buoyantly to

were simultaneous with the publication of
an abstract of the Indentlture securing the
new Oregon Short collateral bonds. This
showed that provision Is mane for allow
Ing that the Northern Securities deposited
as collateral for these bonds shall be al
lowed to share In any reorganisation proj
ect, or further union, merger or sale cf the
company's assets.
Profit-taking In Pennsylvania was acme
what aggravated by the action of the New
Tork aldermen In rejecting the Pennsyl
vania -tunnel contract. Brooklyn Transit
wa decidedly weak owing to the belief
that the company's bid for construction of
tne Last river tunnel win Ian of accept'
ance. The granting of a stay of the Amal
gamated company Injunction against the
working of a disputed mine by a rival was
held to explain the reactionary tendency In
that stock. There were striking upward
movement In various specialties which
were due to purely Individual cause or
manipulation.
The expectation that yesterday engage
ment of gold for export would be cancelled
waa only partly realized and there waa
further engagement by another firm of
$1,000,000, thus bringing the exports for the
week un to $2,760,000. The sustained steadi
ness of the exchange market Indicated that
the shipment Is an Indirect aettlement of
fdrmer obligations. London continued to
sell stocks In this market. The call monev
market was somewhat firmer and the time
money market distinctly strong, but this
did not seem to disturb the equanimity of
the buyers of stocks. Active profit-taking
made the closing Irregular and the net
changes mixed.
The bond market waa Irregular, total
ale, par value, $4,5r5.000. United States
old 4s, registered, declined 14 per cent on
the last call.

shows the receipts
HOGS There waa quite a decrease In hog
receipts today as compared with yesterday,
ut owing to a drop In prices at otner
polnta the markit eased off here. Trading
tarted In on a basis of about a lc decline.
As the morning ndvancrd, nowever, It be
came evident that there were none too
many hos to meet thy demand, and a a
result trading became more active. To-
ard the close prices also Improved, and
the last sales were probably not much more
han a nickel lower than yesterday a gen
eral market. As receipts were rather light
practically everything wa out of first
hands by the middle of the forenoon. The
bulk of the goo-1 hogs sold from $7.35 to
40, and from that up to $7.65. The pick
ing grades and lightweight stuff of poor
uallty aold from II. SO down. v
As will be seen from the table of receipts
above, the supply so far tills week haa been
neavier man for tne same days 01 last
weak, but hardly, equal to the same days
of last year. But more noticeable than
that la the sudden drop In prices. At the
close of laat wet-k the average price of
hogs was a fraction better than $7.66, so
hat for the throe days there has been a
decline of 30c to 36c. Representative salea:

CATTLE There was a very light run of
cattle here today a compared with yester
day, so tnat, wnue tne supply ror tne
three day of this week shows an Increase
over the same days of laat year, there la
a decrease a compared with the same
davi of last week.
Owing to the moderate offerings today
the market waa active and steady to strong
all around, mere were oniv a tew corn
fed steers on sale, but anything good met
with ready sale at strong prices. The
nart fat stuff of course was not In very
good demand and probably did not sell any
more man sie&ay wnn yenieruny. iriu-
In. however, wa Quite active and prac
tically everything in the yards was d te
noned of in good seaaon.
The cow market wa also a little better
than it was on Tuesday. Packera seemed
to be quite anxloua for the better grades
and such kinds commanded strong prices.
The less desirable grades were about
ateady, but at the same time It wa easier
to sell them today than it waa yesterday.
Xtuiis, veai caives ana stags aino soia lor
fully as much as they did yesterday.
There were only- a few atockers and feed
ers Included In the offerings this morning
and the cattle of good weight and quality
changed nanas ireeiy at strong pricea
Prime yearlings were aiso in good request.
The common Kinaa or an weignta were
mora or less neglected and sold at about
steady prices. Yesterday there wa quite
a good aemana irom tne country and a
cars were shipped out.
There were not very many weatern range
cattle on aale this morning, so that a fair
teat of the market was not made. The
few that were offered, however, aold to
fully as good advantage as tney did yes
terday and the market could aafely be
quoted ateady to strong. Representative

SHEEP There was another fairly liberal
upply of sheen and lambs here today.
which makes the receipts for the first half
of the week considerably heavier than for
the same days of last week, and there Is
iso a gain over the same days of last year.
There were none too many, however, to mtel
the requirements of local packers, aa Is
shown by the fact that an active and
steady to strong market was experienced.
Buyers were all out early and it only
took them a short time to buy up every-
hlng offered that waa at all good. It was
noticeable, however, that the prices ptid
were a little uneven, aa some sales looked
considerably higher than others. As a gen
eral thing, though, the market could oe
quoted ateady to strong and active. Ewes
and wethers mixed aold aa high aa $4.00
and $4.06, and the wethers that sold yester
day at $4.15 brought the same price today.
There were some Idaho lambs offered that
brought as high as $6.00.
Feeders continued In good demand and
could be quoted active and fiflly ateady.
Receipts, nowever, were light.
