Final Delight by Getting;
Beaten la Ninth.
In the tnot sensational finish of the tea
ion Omaha batted In three runs In the
ninth Inning. Monday and won the final
game from Milwaukee I to I. Till that
time the Rangera bad not been able to ac
roraplUh anything worth mentioning with
Barber'i aboota. and 4,000 people went Into
paroxysms of excitement when, against all
their expectations, Frank Oenlni atarted
the final half with a two-bagger. Wilder
rooting than then began waa never seen
In Omaha, and with auch fierce encour
agement stone's three-bagger following
seemed only natural. Thouaanda of women
were in the grandstand and the place was
a sea of "scenery," that rocked and swayed
with tumultuous emotion, aa Dolan came
to bat, with Genius' run safely In and
Stone only one bag from home. An error
of McVicker let Dolan on first and then
Stewart and Oraham struck out. The sus
pense was almoat unendurable aa Hlckey,
who had not made a hit alnce last Friday,
came out. But the man with the batting
average of .213 drove a beautiful single to
left field and the game waa won.
- Barber Diastasis People.
A victory . over auch appalling chances
waa a thing that will long be remembered
by the fans, but there was another feature
of the game. That waa the metamorphosis
of Mr. Barber, pitcher, also bis passing.
From the start this twlrler displayed the
maximum of arrogance and Insolence.
When the fourth Inning had passed and
only one bit bad been made oft blm, ha
welled up like a poisoned pup; the begin
ning of the ninth, with only five single hits
off htm, all one to an inning, and no runs,
found him inflated like a pouter pigeon.
To see this piece Of pomposity pulled
from the pedestal waa almost as much joy
aa the victory Itself, and Barber added to
the general satisfaction by being oh, auch
a hard loser. Even while be controlled the

game he bad thrown down bis glove In a
pet .every time be didn't like the umpire's
decisions. Then when that hitting streak
began In the ninth Barber quit for a min
ute as If be were already whipped. . All
through he bad delayed the game shame
fully, but after Genius' two-bagger It
seemed that he could never be persuaded
to resume the box and throw one up for
Stone. It waa wrangle, wrangle and play
baby. Stone's ball went to middle field
fence, and then there waa more disputa
tion, for Stone made third on a elide, and
the Angela swarmed In to say be bad been
caught at the bag when the ball was fielded
In.
Oenlns Geta the Rowdy.
This offered an opportunity for Barber to
be beautifully chastened, and Frank Gen
Ins did the act. Barber was the first to be
on Roe's neck when he called Stone safe,
andMJenlns, who acored on the hit, looked
back and aaw Barber making passea at the
umpire. Frank waa aa much disgusted
with Barber aa anyone, and he bad no
sooner touched the plate than he ran back
to third and yanked Mr. Barber forcibly
and summarily from the scene of argu
ment, and the twlrler looked at Oenlns
once and decided not to resent It, though
be is the larger man.
Milwaukee beefed more or less all
through the game, and it coat the Angels
dear. O'Brien waa put ont of left field in
the seventh, Hanford going from catch to
that place. After Stone'a hit in the ninth
Thornton went to the bench for too much
gab work and McVicker was brought in
from the field to play first. As apparent
retribution for all this disgusting kicking
Mattle made an error on the very next ball
to first, hit by Dolan to Gatina, and fielded
across by him In good time. Then after
Stewart and Graham had struck out, and
Barber began to swell again with the 8 to 1
chance he bad of winning. Hlckey'a single
waa mishandled by Hanford in left, else
only Btone could have acored on It. while
as It was Dolan came safely in.
Ana-els' Hitting Timely.
The Angela got their runs through the
timely bitting of Duffy and Gatlns. In the
second Duffy singled and Gatlns doubled.
In the fourth Thornton took a pitched ball
in the back, Duffy singled again and Gatlns
followed with another single, scoring the
first baseman. The fielding of Stewart and
Oatlna was great, and Pears played a rock
of ages game at Brat. The crowd was
happy to see Gondlng baok at work. The

team is playing clean ball, and some of
the twlrlera are throwing well. After
