says: The lsrgt cotton mill In the world
Is to be built within twenty miles ot Kan
sas City. Ten million dollar I to be
Invested. $3,100,000 of which has already
been subscribed by eastern and western
men.
W. n. Smith Whaley, president of tha
Olympla and Granby cotton mills of Col
umbia, S. C, Is to be president and gen
eral manager of the enterprise. Th mill
will have 500,000 spindles and 12,000 looms.
It will employ 4,000 operatives and bar a
payroll of 12, 450.000 a year.
Th capacity of tha mill will be 170.000
bales of cotton a year with an output oi
75.000,000 pounds of finished cloth. Tha
value of the annual output will. It is aald,
amount to $12,750,000.
The mill will be revolutionary In It con
struction. Electricity will bo used aa tha
motive power and several new device wilt
be Installed. There will be four mill build
ings, covering an aggregate ot 2,000 acres
of ground.
The mill wa promoted by WUtea Mc
Donald, formerly a banker In Kansas
City and later editor of the Kansas City
Times, who recently has been Interested
in mills at Mammoth Springs, Ark. Mr.
McDonald, who says that $3,100,000 has
already been subscribed to push the en
