This break eame today, when th elevator Interest stopped supporting and Jlberal selling was Indulged In. Lonas who led "tailed' after the big bulls eourrKd to secure paper profits or to prevent loo. tBoth July and September option we-e sold freely. Added to thla weakening Influence was that of an absence of any good for lgn demand and the weakening of the foreign markets. July dropped to 73e. (Some support was put under the pit for a time and rally to 74c followed, but the irlose was weak. o lower for July, nt 73e. The Whole action of the pit today indicated V shake-oot manipulation by the bulla to ibuy In at lower prlcea. Local receipts wore 110 cars, 6 of contract grade, and Minne apolis and Duluth reported 271 cars mak ing a total for the three points of 10$ cars, gainst 811 last week and 182 a year ago. Primary receipts were 849.000 bu.. compared to 411,000 laet year. Seaboard clearances In wheat and flour equalled 811,000 bu. The ea board reported seven loads taken for '?orn' held a good Jump at the opening. Induced by higher cables and cold wet weather for the growing corn. Shorts cov ered and the country bought liberally. Sell ing that has been going on for some weeks In September and which haa been thought to be for the provision crowd was said today to be for the big bull Interest This 'influenced a mixed feeling in the pit. July ,-was pushed up to the high price of 6So. which was reached during laat week's ex citement. Shorts were punished to some extent and then the market was allowed to slip back. July held much of Its ad vance, but tho aelling on the bulge In Sep tember brought an excited close in that de livery. July sold between to and 89c and closed o up at 68c. September closed a shade down at 6000c. Receipts were mailer at 154 cars. Oats had a good advance early on buying orders in the hands of all commission houses. The weather did not help the crop any and cash oata continued in their good demnnd until No. 8 white aold todav at Blc&'51o. A little profit-taking on the bulge brought recessions, but July, after aelling at 42e, closed firm, c up, at 420. The weakness in wheat and provisions had no Influence. Receipts were 120 can. It suited the packers again today to un load aome of their burden on the outsiders. Hogs, although touching 87.96. were gen eraily weaker. This caused general liquida tion moet of the day. At times brokers ibouffht In to steady the decline. General telling of ribs, however, produced a weak close. July pork aold between $18.32 and '818.12 and closed 170 lower at $18.!2H, 'September pork aold from $18.66 down to 818.35 and closed 20o down at 818 47. The denllnn in stocks fell to near the low level of activity o me year again today. The movement or prlcea was narrow and Irregular. For the principal active stocks there was good sup port and the undertone of the market was rather favorable, but there waa no disposi tion to buy in view of the uncertainties hanging over the market. There was a fairly general UDward movement in the early dealings, which probably came from bear traders who sold short last evening on the apprehension that King Edward's Ill ness might terminate fatally over nlaht. There was buying here for London account, promptea by the same technical cause which served to bring to a halt the advance In sterling exchange. The local money market was also dis tinctly firmer In tone and encouraged bank ers to sell some sterling loan bills. Nt- wunBianaing a rurtner recession in the prices of sterling at par, there was no en gagement or gold for export. There wns nothing in the news from London os It reached Wall street to account for any strength In the stock market and the grave fear was that the illness of the king of England would terminate fatally. But the sentimental effect of yesterday's sudden an nouncement was somewhat dissipated. Nevertheless, there is something to be ap prehended from direct losses Involved In ne aborptive preparations for the corona tion. Another confederation Is that ther haa been a considerable soeeulation upon the hope of a revival to be Induced by the South African peace. The weak speculators have been forced out since tne declaration of peace, but there is an extensive class of stronger holders which has maintained the hope that the active revival has been merely postponed until after the king's coronation. This speculation has Involved not only London, but the continental finan cial centers.
