AND THE JAIL WORK ResawBBlbilltr for Miss McGee s4 Her Art I SpeelBeally Dealed. . OMAHA, June 17. To the Editor of Tbe Bee: Having seen the snides in Tbe Bee concerning the jail work and tbe Woman Christian Temperance union, and the im putations against the Woman' Christian Temperance union workers as as organiza tion, we feel called upon to act ourselves right before tbe public. A a self-respecting body of Christian women, we have constantly tried to keep ourselves from any sensational notice in the public pre. The Woman' Christian Temperance union, like every well organ ized body, ha it methods of work and rule by which it 1 governed. For years we have been known all over the world as a great power In tbe Jail and prison work. Our method is to carry moral Dd spiritual rood to tbe erring, but never to Interfere In any way with th Jurisdiction ot the civil authorities. When we heard of one who represented our work going to the judge of the court aid asking that the sen tence of a prisoner be shortened, and cer tain other sensational arts, we kindly re monstrated and were Informed by that party "that tbe would do tbe same thing gala under the same circumstance." For several week we kindly and quietly tried to reconcile all difference, suppress all fric tion, sd were surprised to find your re porters persisted in stirring up "the tem pest In the teapot." The Woman's Chris tian Temperance union has for many years carried on the Jail work in our city and ha given freely of It mean snd best ef fort. Many good and efficient workers fcaTe done valiant service under our superin tendents, snd this is the firtt tim4 in all of our history that we have been called upon to defend our cause or our workers, and 11 because of tbe determination of one woman to persistently defy all authority nd well regulated method In. our work a n organization. For several years w have given Mis Magee our support. morally and financially, and were among; the first to help her la tbe City Mission work, and we are very sorry tbe ha proven herself ungrateful. Miss Magee is not a member of our or- ganlraticn at tbe present time and here after will cot represent ut In our work. Mr. Shinrock 1 both county and local luperintendeDt of Jail work under the Woman Christian Temperance union, and whoever works in our name mutt work under her supervision. The services bar been held regularly at the Jail tine Mi Mage left. In both department. MARY GIRARD ANDREWS. ELIZABETH M. COVELL, FRANCIS R. SMITH, CARRIE E. WELEHANS.
