OATS ANIMATED AND ASCEND SHARPLY later Prodt Takla Kips OB Mach ( Gala, thlle Frovlstoas Split III Qalt Higher to Lower. CHICAGO, June 12.-Bulllsh sentiment fiut grain prices up today. Trade wi of Ittle Importance, wv In oats, where there was good activity. The scarce news, now. ever, waa of a slightly bulllRh turn and t the close July wheat waa ii-c up, July corn He higher and July oats W higher. Provisions were pushed down In moat product! and closed Vc higher to 10c lower. . Wheat opened bulllnh, with little newa upon which to argue strength. Cable were Indifferent, but receipts were amall. There waa more wet weather In aeveral localities In the weet and there waa continued talk of reduced stocks. Cash demand, however amounted to very II. tie. Yet the crowd felt bullish and bought. This worried the fairly good-slaed short Intereat, and July after opening V4t.n up, at 727;!c, ad vanced to 760. There waa atlil some ex citement In Allnneapolls and prices there advanced. Later the Uverpool cables re ported an advance In English futures on tad weather. French markets also were higher. The market waa not destined to broaden, for on the advance the leading elevator Interest that has been bulling July and selling September turn?d tactics, giving activity to the further deliveries and de pressing July. The crowd tailed after and July weakened somewhat. The close waa rather llrm, July VfaSc up, at 72-y72Hc. Receipts were IB care, one of contract grade. Mlnueapolla and Duluth reported JS4 cars, muklng a total for the three points of 179 curs, acalnst HW cars last week and 446 cars a year ago. Primary receipts were fcai.ODO bushels, compared with 42,Otf bush els last year. Benboard clearings equalled 277,omj bushels. The seaboard reported 23 loads takn for export. , Corn was dull, but firm, all day. The trade neglected this pit, but the strength In wheat and small acceptance offset the fa vorable weather, so that much support by the big bulls was not necessary. The locil crowd favored buying deferred futures, prices advanced at the opening, but when wheat lost of Ita strength, corn eased and July closed steady, c, higher, at fi3'4c. Much of the early strength waa based on the argument that although receipts were liberal at 312 cars, the percentage of con tract gnde was small. Crop reports are not particularly bearish, especially thoae from Iowa and Illinois. Oats had the exciting pit of the floor. Shorts covered briskly early, there was B strong de-nand from commission houses Snd as there waa little pressure to sell uly new Jumped from 834c at the open ing U 409t,c Receipts were very light at f8 cars, with very little stuff contract grade. The cash demand waa steady. Profit-taking on the advance was plentiful and eased the demand so that much of the advance Waa lost. There waa, however, marked In dependence to the pit and July new closed firm 4e up. at 39V.C It suited the packers' Interest today to push provision prices down. Hogs were weaker and the natural conditions favored a break, but after a little dip at the open ing the packers took up the offerings and ' again advanced prices. There were a few horta In ribs who covered and caused an upturn, but after that was over the packers found the pit so dull that they could not unload pork or lard on anyone, save at lower prices. July pork slumped to 117 S7H and closed 10c down, at 117.60. July 1b rd closed 6c lower, at $10. W, and July ribs 7Ho up. at $10.45. after selling at 810.55. .Katlmated receipts tomorrow: Wheat, 20 cars; corn, 355 carsj oats, 106 cara; hogs, 28,000 head. m The leading future ranged as follows! Corn July, 63c NEW YORK STOCKS AXD BONDS. General Animation Slackens Though Activity In M. P. Is Angnmented. NEW YORK. June 12 The stock market relapsed today In a torpid condition and dealings fell off about one-third from yes terday's aggregate. The efforts which were conspicuous yesterday to advance prices and which were still In evidence In the early market today were discontinued In race or trie discouraging reception wnicn they met. and prices were allowed to fall back. There was no actual weakness de veloped and the selling was pretty well absorbed: In Reading, especially. In which there were large offerings, there was ready ab sorption and apparently a determination to support tne aioca. The conspicuous position of Missouri Pa cific was enhanced today and the volume of the dealings In that stock were far In excess of those In any other on the list. It was moved upwards a point at one time, followed by Texas & Pacific, but the ad vance met sucn neavy selling oraers tnai the movement for the advance was aban doned and practically all the gain waa lost. The only development to account for the strength of the stock was the continued gossip that the dividend will shortly be Increased. The reaction In the market was largely due to a better appreciation of the de crease In the coming wheat crop estimate Involved in the railing err in tne spring wheat acreage. The 'transfer of Nebraska from the spring wheat to the winter wheat list Involves the deduction of most of Its acreage from the spring wheat esti mate. The revision in tne coming wneai crop estimate thus Involved--caused per sistent strength In the wheat market. The strength of the corn market was said to be In sympathy with wheat, but It had even more significant Influence on the stock market, owing to the vast Import ance attached to the fate of the coming crop In Its bearing upon tne prosperity or tha whole country. Speculative sentiment was less hopeful today regarding the position of the coal mlnlno- controversy. This feeling was em phasised by rumors which found circulation tnat a message to congress Dy me pres ident on the subject was In contemplation. Yeaterday's public statement by the oper ators of their position was seen to Involve In effect dissolution of the miners and the lrreconclllable position thus presented was felt to threaten a lengthened contest. The nresaure upon sugar was connected with yesterday's testimony before the sen ate committee ntgaraing tne meinoua pur sued In the advocacy of the reciprocity policy. A notable decline In May export of the principal domestic articles reported from Washington had a depressing effect, especially In view of the great Importance of a sustained trade -balance In favor of this country during the next few months on acount of the heavy obligations to for eign lenders which will mature In that time. There was also a significant tone In the loan market for loans running over the period of the coming semi-annual settle ment, and of the later demand for cur rency to move the crops. The market closed dull, but steady. The movements in the bond market were Irregular. Total sales, par value. 11,990.000. However, the sapply wss limited. Closing nrlcoa veatardaV were weak and the open ing this morning slow and fully ao lower all around. Buyers were slow In getting to work and until a late hour but Utile trading aaa accomplished. The greatest weakness was on the Inferior light mixed lots, but best grades ruled oft from the be- ''"Tope'sold up to 87.(0 and the bulk of the fair to good hogs went at 87 .mjQn.Vk.
