Prohibitionist! Taks Morning Game bj
Good, Timely Batting.
POUND ALLOWAY ALL OVER THE LOT
Twelve Loag, Timely lilts RrUttrtl
Of Ik Smiling Boy with the
Town Clock Motion, by
.k the Qnlnnltee.
Dei Moines celebrated Memorial day
morning by batting out an overwhelming
victory from tbe Rourket, tba cor being
11 to t. Alloway waa pounded for twelve
hlta, among which were a borne run, a
three-bagger and two double, and most of
them were of the timely order. Omaha,
too, did aome batting, with nine hlta, In
cluding a three-aacker and five for two
baga, but Pitcher Barry teemed to keep
tbeae aalllea well scattered and tbe result
waa that the top-llnera could not get the
necessary men across the rubber slab, while
tbe Iowans found no difficulty In scoring
very Inning, save three.
Alloway'a own unstesdlneas and expensive
errors by Hlckey and 8tewart at critical
times were a large factor in helping to
awell the score, but with all such misplays
present and accounted fee, the visitors
till had the red aockers strapped to the
operating (able all the time. It was Des
Moines game from tbe third inning and the
Hawkeyee well deserved the victory they
earned.
Joe Dolan'a batting may not have been
the feature, but bla two doublea and a sin
gle looked mighty good, and if aomeooe
else besides Stone had done aome sticking
at tbe right times or at all, for that mat
ter, the etory might have been different.
However, the victors played the closest
kind of a game all the way, at waa shown
pointedly in the fourth, when with two men
on bases Hotter caught Oondlng's swift
liner on third and touched the bag before
Dolan could get back to it, making a neat
double all alone. This tame Hoffcr was the
men of the hour, his fielding being mag
nificent and bis batting especially Interest
ing In view of a home run in tbe third
that went over left field fence on tbe
bounce and two singles besides. ,
Des Molnee fully demonstrated base ball
ability, and Barry In the boa showed that
he waa not to be taken lightly. He la a
steady, reliable man, judging from the
morning's performance. Old Joe Qutnn did
the marveloua hitting of the whole day, de
spite home funs and triples, for he made
two doublea and two singles off Alloway,
coring four Tuns also. Tbe score:
OMAHA.

DOLAT1 HIT CAME WHE HEEDED.
Timely Drive to Left Scores Only Rrtm
of Game.
With two out and Stone on third bate in
.the last half of the ninth inning Joe Dolan
alammed the ball to the left field fence
Friday afternoon, acorlng the winning run
and the only one that had crossed the plate
during the game. The hit waa the most
sensational seen at Vinton Street park thla
year. The presence of B,000 people who
were already wrought to a state of fremy
by a game of palpitating situations and
hairbreadth escapee waa one thing that
helped to make the hit ao remarkable. The
fact that it waa one out of a etlngy. tlx that
nine Rourkltes had been able to bat off
Morrison In nine Innings was another. Tbe
core of 0 to 0 at the time with the two
outs capped the, climax. The ball waa a
beauty, going high and fast clear over
LeftAelder Backofa' head to the fence. It
waa good for two sacks had Dolan needed
them. Btone shared In the glory, for ha
had landed himself on second with a fierce
drive tonight field fence, and had mad
third on Warner'a catch of Calhoun's fly.
Genlne' Seneatloaal Catch.
Frank Qenlna cornea in for Just aa much
praise aa Dolan, for by aavlng the game
In the eighth he alao won It, and the catch
which did it was phenomenal. Thla oc
catlon was even mora aensatlonal than that
of the run,' for It waa more drawn out.
There were three men on bases, put there
by Dolan'a error and Owen'a gift and bit
ting a batter. There waa only one out.
The crowd had lost hope, but waited
breathlessly to tee the Bntth of ita team.
Right then Pitcher Owsn showed that there
waa no streak of yellow In him. He had
been throwing great ball all the after
noon and kept at It when It was tore
needed. He atruck out Backof. who had
made three hlta In tbe morning game.
Lobeck came to bat and drove what looked
like a aure tingle to center field. It waa
a low fly, and the three runners began to
stream over tbs horns plate. But Oenlnt
got there, and with a last atagger ha took
tbe ball off tbe tips of the grata blades.
receiving an ovation which proclaimed bis
catch the most remarkable one likely to
be aeon. The aid waa out and Oenlna waa
cheered and cheered.
Viae Work by laSelJere.
There were two more remarkable fielding
ptaya, both by Rourke'a men, and each of
tbem In a critical place. In the first Hlckey
went up In tbe air higher than anyone
thought hat abort lege could ever aend him
and brought down between two fingers of
one hand Backofs drive along the line,
which waa headed for left field and a aafe
hit. Ed threw his left hand across bis
face and up over hla right shoulder to
get the ball. There waa a man on first at
the time and the hit would have been dan
geroua. Then la the third Dolan took I
fierce chance on a ground ball with hit
bare hand, and picked it up In tome Im
possible way. He fielded it to first and tbe
next batter handed out a double, which
would hate easily acored the man preced
ing had Joe let him get to first.
Qulna'a team baa no license to be
tallender. After showing good bate ball
during Ita entire aeries here and beating
the Otnahaa thoroughly Friday morning, the
Iowans Jolnes. with the locals la tbe pret
tiest game possible aa a farewell. It
teemed all the time that Dea Molaea would
win, for tbe visitors were always nearer
to scoring than -was Omaha. , la bath the
seventh and eighth innings they put three
mem oa bates and they hit Owea tately Jutt
as many times at did tbe Omabat find Mor
rison. Both pltchera were in great form,
and the teams behind tbem played pennant
ball. Score:

Creighton whitewashed Drake yotterday
lu migQlncent t'yle and ran up ten tallies
to their own credit. Owing to Nebraeka'a
unwllllngneta to give tbe lor a Is .ilelr sched
uled game at Lincoln today ttl was, per
haps, Crtlghton'a final game of . he season
and an excellent finish It was, for the Pro
hibitionists were administered tba hardest
and most .complete defeat that tbey have
experienced this setion. Creighton went
Into tbe game for blood, using all .the pent
up energy with which she had hoped to de
feat Nebraska today. Tbe particular relish
of the victory to the Creighton students
waa the fact that Creighton defeated Drake
10 to 0 while the best Nebraska could do to
the Dea Molnet aggregation was 10 to 8.
Welch did the throwing for the locals
and he was in prime condition. One would
hardly believe it waa the same man that
pitched against Nebraska latt Saturday.
Eleven strikeouts, three lean and well aep
arated hlta and not a bate on balla waa
hla record yesterday. Owelty, DrakaS star
pitcher, wss In tbe box for the visitors dur
ing tbe first six innings, and then Kinney
was substituted. Neither was rery effec
tive. Tbe game sim commenced by wrlch'e
blanketing hie first three opponents at the
plate. Lynch began the hitting by a neat
single, stole second, and Dlneen made flrat
on the ahortstop'a mlscue. Harry Welch
flew out to deep center Jutt for the eaka
of acorlng Lynch, and Dlneen waa caught
at home while executing a poorly coached
ateal. ' '
It was tbe aame throughout the game, the
vitltore were either retired In one-two-three
ttyle or their would-be hlta were fielded
by tbe Omaha lads, who worked together
like the machinery of. a clock. Only once
In the gsme waa there any hope lor the
Drakltes. That was the fourth inning.
Owtley and Kinney atarted It by getting
two consecutive hltt. A wild throw ad
vanced them a sack. Then Welch cruetTy
killed their hopes by striking out the nec
essary. Throughout the locale stole baaea at will.
Lynch, Stene and O'Keefe being particu
larly adept In this line. Lynch waa In
vincible at the bat four times at bat and
four bits, one a two-bagger, waa hla rec
ord. Buckler, Stene and Dlneen alto -met
the aphere in Lajole atyle, while Clark
tbowed what a tallender can do by rapping
out a two-base bit.
For the visitors, Pettte Burg's counter
part caught a star game and hia throw
ing to eecond waa almost as good as bonnle
Captain O'Keefe's, though not to effective.
