(FIGURES SEE-SAW IN GRAIN PITS
Good. Crop Wtkrr and Alnfe ot
Export RoalnrM Overcome Ap
parent Bullish Sentiment and '
, Three Xeadere Cloae Lower..
' CHICAGO, March 25 Speculation In
fining waa of a see-saw nature today.
Fl here was lejs forco to the markets than
on Monday, leaiwrs were lea active and
tlher waa nothing great in the general
trade to follow. Good crop weather and
an absence of export business worked
against the bulls, and at the close My
wheat waa a Bhade under, May corn t,c
flower and May oata c down. Provisions
closed 2Vo to 7Ho lower.
Leaving out crop damage reports, which
(traders In wheat refuae to consider serl
lously, there was little news to help the
Iwheat bulls. Cables were Indifferent and
closed somewhat lower. English caMes re
ported cargoes on passage flat and New
Tork had no foreign acceptances over
night. The sentiment prevails that the
continent filled up pretty well last week
ithe break. May opened U'S'tto to fcfco
down at 73o to 7lTc, but recovered on some
buying for short accounts. The continued
long eellng, though quiet, took off the edge
of advances and prices fluctuated nar
rowly. When to any lose, however,
waa as quick to rally from a dip as to
react from a bulge. Late In the day May
sold at 7210. The close was steady, May
la shade under at 72to. Weakness In the
coarse grains at St. Louis, as well as a
reduction in arrivals, compared with
those of last year, worked against good
i advance. Receipts, eighty-one cars;
'three contract grade; Minneapolis ana lu
lluth receipts were 292 cars, a total for the
three point of 874 cars, against 434 last
week and 606 a year ago. Primary re
ceipts were, 442 bushels, compared to 624,
5o0 bushels last year. Seaboard clearances
'equalled 878,000 bushels. Bradstreet's re
port of world's stocks showed a decrease
of a year ago.
Corn waa heavy at the opening on ca
Mos and continued weak most of the ses
sion. Warmer weather favored plowing
and a better movement and receipts were
I somewhat better. St. Louis also sold here
early In liberal quantities. May started
S'WHa to WUo lower at .68u8Vo. but on
Igood outside buying orders a quick rally
was made to 68Hc. The west reported good
calls for corn from the country, but tt Is
fioenlble that they were for seeding. Later
a the day the local holders let go liberally
iani May lost Its hold again, selling down
no 68c. A reaction on covering purchases
.followed again, but the close was weak.
May o lower at WAtif&- Receipts, 207
cars for two aays. ,
Trade in oats was Inclined toward dull
ness. So few people dare to trade In May
oats that orders are hard to execute.
Country offerings were light and estimates
small, though the receipts today were llb-
leral. Early the tone was weak with other
grain weakness. May closed easy, Ho lower
I at 4ZKc Receipts, 226 cars.
i Provisions were nervous for a time, but
, eventually lost some of their recent gains
on liquidation uy iuuks. i nw cubii biiuh.
tlon was strong and the yards reported a
good hog market. Some of the smaller
Backers were inclined, to support the mar
ket and there was good buying by Invest
ors both local and outside. May pork sold
to 116.06, but closed 2o lower at $15. MH.
Lard cloned at 7V4c off at 19.624, and. May
ribs XaRV,o lower at $8.724.
Estimated receipts tomorrow: Wheat,
80; corn, 120; oats, 95; hogs, 37,000 head.

NEW YORK STOCKS AND UONDS.
Additional Selling; of Stocka Dae to
Approach of Triple Holidays.
NEW YORK. March 25. Today's stock
market began to reflect the expectation of
the coming triple holiday from Thursday
until the Monday after Easter. So long an
Interval in the trading always prompts
some closing out of acounts.
The issuance of lnlunctlons against west
ern railroads forbidding rebates and rate
cutting waa not unexpected, but the re
ported determination of the Interstate
Commerce commission to hold a further
and stringent inquiry into the rate .ques
tion was a surprise and had a chining in
fluence. There was a slump of more than
Dolnts In Evansvllle & Terre Haute. The
advance waa renewed In Colorado Fuel,
after some early heaviness, and the stock
gained 34 points, allowing for the divi
dend off. North American made a further
UDward dash and late in the dav the Kan
sas City & Southern stocks and the Minne
apolis, Bt. jaui c sauu ate Marie stocks
forged upward without explanation. These
gains were the exception to the rule, which
was on the side of losses. Amalgamated
Copper was supported In face of the post
ponement of the Anaconda dividend, meet-
ng and closed with a small gain.
There was heavy selling of the Wabaah
debenture bonds with a loss -of 14 per
cent. Otherwise bonds were steady. Sales,
par value, $2,300,000. United States bonds
were all changed on the last call.
The Commercial Advertiser's London
financial cablegram says: The stock mar
ket had a sagging tendency today, with
an absence of buHlness. The public la in
clined to hold aloof before the holidays.
American snares were idly auu, closing
weak. New York coming as a general
seller, ' particularly of Erie and United
States Steel. Rio tlntos sold at .424 and
Anaconda broke 5-16 to 61 8-16 in dread of
the Amalgamated copper situation. The
sum of 20,000 in gold has gone to Bermuda.

HOGS Receipts of hog were liberal
this morning, but so also was the demand
on the part of lard packers, so that the
market started out active and 54ilOc higher
than yesterday. The better grades changed
hands qu)te freely, but the activity waa
not of very long duration. After packers
had their more urgent orders filled they
lowered their bids so that the market
closed slow, with the most of the advance
lost. Sellers were holding for the morning
prices and were not willing to make the
concessions asked and for that reason It
was lute before anything like a clearance
waa made. The most of the good weight
hogs sold from $6.40 to $6.60. Medium
weights went largely from $6.30 to $6.40,
and the lighter loads went from $6.25
down.
Today's advance carries the market to
the highest point reached in some time
past. Representative sales

SHEEP There was a fairly liberal sup
ply of sheep here today, bat the' demand
was In good shape and the market waa
active and fully steady. The quality of the
offerings was unusually good and, as will
be seen from the sales belew, some high
prices were paid. A bunch of spring lambs
sold aa high as $9.00, yearlings sold up to
$5 90, ewes sold up to $5.00 and ewes and
v ethers, mixed, brought $5.10, while lambs
sold as high aa $6.55 It was a brisk market
from start to finish on everything ut all de
sirable, so that practically everything was
sold at an early hour. Heavy sheep did not
seem to be In quite as good request us the
handy weights.
There was no change in the feeder situa
tion, s the market continues fully steady.
