A telegram received from Clatonta, states
that th 8-year-old child of Joba Wayman,
near that place had died from symptoms
of poisoning. It appears that some time
go a woman traveling medicine peddler or'
fakir was through that ssctlon and left
at or sold to th Wayman'i some of her'
nostrums in the form of pills.
While the parents of the child were away
from tne houle temporarily, th child found
the pills and ate them. The little one was ,
promptly summoned, but hlg efforts toward
un,v.IllnK .. ,f
died In convulsions about 6 0 clock last,
evening. The symptoms wer those f of
strychnine poisoning.
Dri Deardorff notified Coroner Welden by
telegraph, giving a complete history of th ,
case, and as the cause of death was clearly
evident It was deemed unnecessary to bold
an Inquest.
The Incident ts but the result of the In-'
discriminate peddling and free distribution'
of medicines of an unknown character, not'
alone through rural districts, but In the'
cities a well. While under ordinary cir
cumstances these patent medicine may be
harmteis, yet there la frequently Just enough '
of dangerous drugs In them to produce
either a temporary stimulation or pertnan-'
ent Injury.
This city has recently been flooded with
samples of powders and ptllsV which falling
Into the hands of careless and gullible peo
ple, can produce dangerous results.
