good the past year. The summer was pretty

shortage of crops did not seem to affect the
prosperity of the country, however. Every
thing that was raised sold nt a good price,
Corn did not yield well last year In Okla
homa, but It Isn't much of a corn-gorwlng
state. Wheat nnd cotton are the chief

homa at present. Many people who secured
claims do not care to hold them and nro

on the claims with the consent of tho origi
nal holders. At Lawton, El Reno and other
towns near tho land which was recently en

appenrrd and been released on bonds rang
ing from (200 to (500 each.
Among them were such well known men
as Cliff Cole, Tom Dennlson, Pnt Moran,
John Alperson, W. F Stoecker, Nat Urown
and Slg. Kohn. None of those indicted
seems desirous of evading tho summons
and many of them enme to the sheriff's
office voluntarily when they heard they
were wanted. The coses of all persons In
dicted li) tho grand Jury havo been contin
ued to the February term of court, as tho
potlt Jury for tho present term haa been
dlecbnrged.
The grand Jury began Its work on No
vember 6 and has been grinding ' away
steadily ever since. It will continue Its
(tensions a week or ten days longer and will
finish Its investigations early In January.
At present the conditions existing ln the
proscribed district are under consideration
and scores of people who aro supposed to
bo posted are being examined. There Is
every Indication that tho grand Jury ts
sifting the matter thoroughly.

Detective J. D, A. Johnson called upon
Chief Donahue yesterday and explained
why It had taken him two weeks to got
Charles Katz, alia Carl Cramer, the al
leged forger, out of the clutches of the Min
nesota authorities.
"Katz has several families of relative! in
Minneapolis and St. Paul," said be, "and
all of them united their efforts to Veep
their kinsman there. They filed all sorts
of charges against him to offset my charge,
und even went so far as to bavo him In
dicted by the grand Jury up there. Finally,
when the governor and Mayor Amea of Min
neapolis found out what they were up to,
thine wore n little smoother sailing for
mo and I won out ultimately."
Katz is wanted ln Omaha to answer to
several charges of forgery, by which tt li
alleged be secured an aggregate ot $500
about six weeks ago.
