The most acute depression was shown by

easily perceptible In tho vigorous expres

In spite of the extent or the relief to the

reduce the level below the prolltablo point

CATTLE There was about a normal
Monday's run of cattle here today, but the
better grades were In active demand and as
a result the market ruled nctlvn and strojig
all around. The common stuff, of course,
did not sell quite as freely, hut still thorn
was very little change noticeable from tho
close of last week In the prices paid.
There were qulto a fov good to choice
beef steers here today nnd thn market was
strong nnd active, in fact tne nign poini
of the season was reached today, when a
load of cattle weighing 1.483 pounds sold at
$6.50. Anything good enough to bring over
tj.w sold very rapidly nun in a goou many
Instances tho prices paid looked a little
higher than tho same kind sold for last
week. Cnttle of ralr to good quality also
sold fully steady, but tho common and
warmed-up kinds were slow.
The cow mnrket was fairly active today
on anything good nnd Just about steady
prices were paid. The medium grades and
canners were not particularly brisk, but
about steady with the close of last week,
Bulls, calves and stags nil sold without
material change.
There was a fair supply of stockcrs and
feeders In tho yards, but the demand was
sufficient to take the heavyweight feeders
and choice yearlings at fully steady prices.
The undeslrablo grades were neglected, the
same us they have been for some time past,
Thcro were not many range steers on
sain good enough for packers, but those
that were offered changed hands rapidly at
stronger prices. Range cows were Just
about stendy and so also was anything at
nil dcslrabfti In the way of stackers and
feeders. Representative sales;

HOGS-Todav's heavy run of hogs broke
all previous records for Monday by a
good, safe margin, there being 6,1.5 hend on
in VanUor. hnwnver. had liberal orders
and 'as a result the market opened in good
season, active nnil anoui sicany 00 iitmy
hogs, Anything showing both weight and
qiinlltv sold right around $5.V. the ame
as on Saturday. The medium weights
brought largely $5.60 nnd $5.62V4, while the.
lightweights were ry slow sale nnd went
from $5.60 down. a light hogs were un
evenly lower, but l most cn ses the de
cline would be covcied by a i..ckel. Com
mission men am warning their customers
to buy their light hogs with enrc. as the
range between the prices paid for the light
nnd heavy hogs Is Increasing every day.
The light hogs were left todny until the
last nnd buyers did not seem to cars
whether they got them or not, but they all
wanted the heavyweights.
The close nf the market was more active
and the feeling was firmer than earlier In
the day. This was true both of the tight
and heavy hogs, so "that everything was
sold In good season. Representative sales:
