Thero were sovcral loads of good to choice beef steers In the yards this morn ing, but they were soon out of first hands and brought good tlrm prices. Anything on tne export oroer was Dougnt up 111 a hurry, an packers are anxious for that class of cattle. Tho half-fat and common kinds, of course, did not movo as freely as the good stuff, but thero wus not much chango from yesterday In the prices paid. Tho cow market was a little more brisk today than H was yesterday, so far ns tho better grades were concerned. The prices paid for tho desirable kinds wero fully as good as thoso of yesterday. Trade on the medium kinds nnd canners. however, wus rather uneven and could not bo quoted any more than steady. There have boen a good many canners on sale this week, and as a result the tendency of prices has been steadily downward. Bulls, calves and veal calves also sold In Just about yesterday's notches. There were onlv a. few stockers and fcrf. ers Included in the receipts today, but as Is generally me case nr. mo close or tne week, thn demand was light. Thn good stuff sold without material change, but tho common kinds were dull and weak. Thero wore not enough western heaf steers on sale today to mako a fair test of tho market, but Judging from the way buy ers acted It Is safe to say that anything nt nil good would have sold at steady prices. Range cows also sold In Just about yesterday's notches, where tho quality was at all good. Good to choice stockers und feeders were not far from steady today, but the undesirable grades wero slow and weak. It was evident, how ever, that packers' had liberal onlers ami ns a result the market became more ac tive and gained In strength as the morn lug advanced, After the llrst round It wns largely a $5.65 nnd $5.6714 market nnd the bulk of nil the sales today went nt those two prices. Later on the market became still stronger, with sales going largely at $...bi'4 and $5.70, with the choicest bunches bringing mostly from $5.70 to $5.80. Before all tho hogs wero sold, however, the feel ing was a little easier nnd for a lime not very much wns done. The weakness was of short duration, though, as puckers soon raised their bids nnd the market closed at the high point, tho decline of the morning being fully regained. Representative sales.
