NEW ORLEANS. La., July 30.-
COLUMBUS, O., July 20. The racing at
the Grand Circuit meeting today was of a
high order, although tho Intense heat con
tlnued and kept many people away. Two
favorites wero successful, but tho 2:20 trot
went to a third choice.
Tho 2:20 pace, a $5,000 early closing
stake, brought out such good ones as Au
dubon Hoy, Star Pugh, Captain Brlno,
Shadow Chimes, Helen D and others. Au
dubon Boy was Installed favorite, tho pools
averaging 50 to 40 on tho field. Captain
Ilrlno showed a world of speed In tho first
heat, leading all the way. Dick Lee and
Helen D forced him to the three-quarter
nolo, when he came away very fast. Ho
was a sure winner at the scvon-clghthn
polo nnd Vox did his best to slow him up
before he reached tho wire, but the mllo
was paced In 2:07.. the fastest tlmo of tho
day. Tho effort was too much for tho Ilrlno
liorso and Audubon Boy went out nnd won
the next three heats, reducing his record
from 2:09 3-1 to 2:0S 1-4. Star I'ugh, "In
ner nt Detroit and Cleveland, was driven
hard In the third nnd fourth heats, hut
could not reach tho favorite. Shadow
Chimes was never n factor.
Charlie Mc was a hot favorlto In the 2:17
trot. Porto Rico won tho first heat In slow
tlmo nnd when tho horses reappeared for
the second heat tho Judgci ordered Driver
Durfeo down from Charley Mc's t,ulkoy
.ffi7 i on the ground that ho had not driven the
5" j hent to win. Durfeo refused to dismount
' iss ! for some time, but did so at last and Mc
Vp Henry wns substituted. Tho Judges ro
i'f., i served their decision In Durfcc's caso pend
ing nirthcr investigation. in .Mcnenry
hands Charley Mc went out and won the
next three heats, Porto Rico always being
tho contending horse.
Colonel Clary, overnight fnvorlto In tho
2:20 trot, was not In form and was drawn
after the second heat. Ebba, a gray mare
from Indianapolis, repeated May Allen s
performance of yesterday hy winning In
straight heats with Henrlcttn halt a length
behind each time.
It Is raining tonight, which will greatly
