The officials of the railway mall serrlca
aro looking hopefully toward July 1, whe
the now appropriation becomes available.
It has been necessary to retrench severely
during the last half. of the fiscal year, and
additions will probably he made commen
surato with tho needs ot the service,,
Eight mall clerks who aro now unemployed
antlclpato going back to tbelr runs on the
first of tho month.
Tho common rumors of additional mall,
cars nro repeated now with more definite
authority. It is contemplated putting two
mora through cars on the Hurllugton, giv
ing tnis uno inrco westbound fast mall
trains and two osstbounds. Nos. 6 and
13, both fast trains, ore expected to benefit
by tho Improvement. At present these
trains have no working mnll cars cast of
the Missouri river, although they carry
tnrougn mall. A working car is to bo
put on each of these trains, that on No. 13
to run from Chicago to Hillings and that
on No. 6 from Denver to Chicago.
Tho additional service contemplated will
be ot especial benefit to people of low's,
who have long clamored for n fast daylight1
servlco between towns In the state along
the lino of tho Burlington, Tbq chnnga
will mako necessary sovoral additional
postal clerks between Chicago and Omaha.
It Is oxpected that these positions will bo
given to men old In tho service, the less
desirable runs going to novices.
