NEW YORK, June 10,-Therc wns some
liquidation In the stock market today,
shadowed by the drop In prices on Sat
urday after the bank statement annenred.
Tho heavy demands disclosed by the. bank
statement on banking resources here cnusen
uneasiness, as It was not known how much
further they might proceed. Payments for
the $0000,0i0 worth of new Pennsylvania
stock are required between June 1 and
Junt 15, so that the needs on that account
run over a period to come. The steel stocks
lost IV and m respectively for the com
mon nnd preferred during the period of
weakness, hut rallied to a frnctlon over
Snturday. Rock Island fell as much ns 44
from the best, St. Paul ZV, nnd Missouri
Pacific 3. The lending Industrials showed
rather acute depression, Sugar falling
nearly 4 points. Amalgamated Copper 4H
nnd Acmlrncu Tobacco, People's l!ns and
the New York public utilities from lJi to
2i. The Into rally left the net changes
significant In only n few stocks. Missouri
Pacific rose strongly to 120 In the late deal
lngs, which was 214 points over Snturdny.
The southwestern stocks, particularly
Southern Pacific, Atchison nnd Union Pa
cific, made notable good recoveries, nnd
Pennsylvania was lifted a. point over Sat
urdny. The closing, nevertheless, wns
slightly Irregular, the market yielding again
In spots. Amerlcnn Ltnsecd rose 8V4 and
the preferred on the buying of only a few
hundred shares.
The bond mnrkct was Inactive nnd
showed some Irregularity, but was, In tho
main, llrm. Total sales, par value, $2,420,
000. t'nlted States bonds were nil un
changed on the las, call.
The Commercial Advertiser's London finan
cial cablegram says: Amerlcnn shares were
quiet, bul selling predominated during tho
first hour on the unfavorable features of the
New Yrrk bank statement of last Satur
day. The selling Included 15,000 shares of
Atchison for tho continent, which were
taken up by the arbitrageurs ns a good
margin. Toward midday tho market per
ceptibly hardened, New York covering
strong, hut In the nbsenco of support quo
tatlons finally sagged again, The Stock Ex
change committee has fixed next Monday ns
tho dnte for buying In Northern Pacific.
There was very little Interest In tho an
nouncement, as the short Interest has been
practically eliminated nnd It Is believed
that there are only nbout 10,000 shares to
settle and the borrowing rates are easy nt
120 to 125.

CATTLK It was almost like a Saturday
In the cattle yards todny, as the total re
ceipts were exceptionally light, and a good
proportion of wnnt did arrive was direct
to local packers nnd not offered on tho
market. As packers were all anxious for
good cattle It did not take them long to
buy up what was on sale.
Tho market on beof steerH was active
and strong. Tho demand for good to choice
heavy weights was exceptionally good, nnd
as thero were only a few bunches on sale
sellers held, them at high prices, und In
some cases succeeded In springing tho mnr
kct to some extent. Kven tho less desira
ble bunches sold readily at strong prices.
The situation, however, could best be de
scribed by calling It ,a good, strong, uctlvo
market.
There were only a few odds and ends of
cows here today, and hardly enough to
make a test of the, market. Good drylot
cows were In nctlve demand at strong
prices, nnd the commpner grades nnd grass
stuff also commanded fully steady ptlccs.
Buyers, however, dill' not seem to be ns
anxious for the butcher stock as they were
for tho steers.
There wns no particular change notlce
able In tho prices paid for bulls today, but
nt the same tlmo sellers found no difficulty
In disposing of anything nt all desirable
nt very satisfactory prices. Stags also
brought strong prices, and so nlso did veal
calves.
Tho receipts of stackers and feeders con
tinue very light, nnd while the demand Is
not heavy, still It Is sufficient to tnke what
Is being offered at good steady prices. It ts
tho better grades, however, that nro
wanted, ns the common kinds are neg
lected. Representative sales;
