The strenatli of the stock market, which was quite marked at one time durlnc the dav. diminished de cidedly after a while When the check was first decisively established mere was a notable (ailing away in tho volume of deal ings, but there was a resumption of ac tivity before the close. The progressive de cline In the strength of the market Is prob ably due to the completion of realizing prollts on various heavy lines of stocks. mis nrollt-taKing was cienriy in evidence nil flay, every demonstration of special trength In Individual stocks being taken advnntage of to prosecute the selling. Else- mere stocks wnicn nave snown grcaicsi trciiEth recently were naturally most af fected by tho realizing. The sharp advances scored in a number or low-priced stocnr during the earlier part of the day pointed clearly to manipulation In the Interest of the realizing crowd, but there was also notable strength developed In the market In nign grauc siocks. i no most sensauonai upward movement was In Rock Island, Tho late spurt In that stock to 175U hnd a note worthy Influenee In ntlffnnlnir the list after It had touched the low points of the day to thnt time, but as soon us it was perceived that the Hock Island movement was with out effect the selling wan renewed with tedoubled force. The admission of In terests to the directory of Rock Island was pretty clearly foreshadowed, but tho extra stock issuo was an entire surprise to tnc street. The movement In Atchison was more gradual and on larger dealings. Rumors of lease- to union Pacific persisted, and the admission to the directory of the banking firm which represents the northern lines Pac tic railroads was regarded as s g- Iflcant of the progress being made toward community of interest In that territory as result or the adjustment of the Northern nclllc quarrel. Atchison's extreme rise was 4',J. The story of .Missouri Pacific's ontrni or southern Pacific and the rumor f the exchange of Missouri Pacific stock for the Denver & Rio Qrande stock were nn influence in that group of railroads. Pennsylvania was affected by the published explanation of nn executive officer lately returned from Europe, of good prospects of coal export trade. Executive changes In tne Krie were taken as roreshndowing itn- yrovements In operation. The atrengtti of lllnols Central was based on comparison r itn low prices with railroad stocks in the snme category. Amalgamated Copper urrcicd from the granting of a now injunc tion against Its proposed nbsorptlons. Ad vances or from l to 4 points in a number or low-priced railroads and Industrials were unexnlalnea by any news. The advance In Canadian Pacific nnd Its affiliated lines was designed to lift the stock In proportion to the advance of other stocks of northwest- rn Pacific lines. Tho bond mnrket was Irregular In sym pathy with slocks. Total sales, par value, $3,615,000. United States bonds were all un changed on can. The commercial Advertiser s London financial cablegram pays: Uuslness on the Stock exchange hero todny dwindled to al most Infinitesimal proportions. There was a general exodus to witness tho Derby. BRINGS MANY VISITORS TO THE CITY Moat Important arstlon for Consid eration Is the Action of Wnsh Iniiton Authorities Relative tn Clandestine Lodges, The twenty-fourth annual communication of the Masonic grand lodge of tho statu of Nebraska was held In Masonic hall yes terday afternoon. The annual address of Grand .Master A. W. Crltes of Chadron was presented. The grand master con gratulated tho members upon the growth of the order In the stnta and lta solid financial standing; reported the laying of corner-stones and othor otllclal acts, aud ceasured the officers ot a lodgo for con ducting n raffle for tho purposo of raising funds for tho finishing ot a lodgo room. During the last year the grand waiter has mado fifty decisions, which he sub mitted to the graud lodge for Its consid eration. Tho report of the grand lodge treasurer showed cash on hand May 31, $27,306.VS. Tho report of the grand secretary was exhaustive, showtug each Hem ot receipt and expenditure. Forty members ot the order lu tho state hivo been placed on tho retired list during the last year. Tho report of Robert E. French, grand custodian, showed that he has, since taking the place made vacant by the death ot James Allen Tulley, visited twcnty-slx lodges and held eighty-eight sessions of ofllcUl schools of Instruction. Members to tho number ot 1,276 have been added by these sessions. Tho custodian desired his report referred to a special committee, so that .he could communicate to tho lodge matters Id connection with the on.ee which could not be submitted lu a formal report. The report of the trustees of tho or phans' educational fund showed that the fund had Increased $1,661.59 In the last year, the amount on hand at this time being $34,327.06. The report ot the committee on returns showed a total membership of 12,767 In the state, a not gain of 406 during the year. The gross gain was 1,204, tho loss 798. At the evening session the address ot the grand orator was made, touching upon points of Interest to the members of the lodges In the state, after which work In the past master's degreo occupied tho tlm until adjournment. The most Interesting question for consid eration at this session of the grand lodge Is one not referred to In tho grand master' address. It will come up on the report ot tho committee on Jurisprudence and Is tho matter of tte grand lodge of thn state of Washington and Its recognition of the so-called negro Masons. The question was presented to tho Nebraska grand lodgq two years a,o, but action was deferred, with tho understanding that tho Wash ington grand lodge would change Its rule for the recognition ot negro lodges. A change was mado in tho rule, but not according to tho Ideas of the Nebraska Masons, so In his address as grand master ono year ago W. W. Kcysor reported that while a chango was made, In his opinion It was reaffirmation, tn a more Insidious form, ot the position previously held by tho Washington grand lodge, and a position which could not be concurred In by the grand lodge ot this stats. As ho did not believe that communication with tho Wash ington grand lodge should be discontinued without due consideration ho referred the matter to tho grand lodge for action. Clandestine I.odnen. The principal contention seems to be over clandestine lodges, the Washington grand lodge holding that It should Judge tho stand ing of al! Masons who apply for admission under Its Jurisdiction while tho grand lodges of the majority of states hold that each grand Jurisdiction should have tho right to declaro any lodge within Its borders clandestine, and that all other grand lodges should be bound by this nctlon. They claim that under the Washington rule a member of a clandestine lodgo In Nebraska can go tn the state ot Washington and gain a cer tain. Masonic standing by being recognized as a Mason by tho lodges of that state which are recognised by the grnnd lodge ot the state of Nebraska. Tho recommendation of the grand master last year was referred to the committee on foreign correspondent and that committee made a report sustaining the position of the master and rec:mmendlng that fraternal relations with the grand lodge ot Washing ton be discontinued. This report was not acted upon, the matter being referred to the commlttco on Juris prudence which near the close of the session asked for further time' to consider. Tho tlmo was granted and on the reoort of the committee tho matter will come up at this meeting. Judge Kcysor, the grand master wbo mado the recommendation, ls chair man of the Jurisprudence committee, which will report tomorrow. Tho delegates to the present grand lodge number about 600 persons coming from 235 active lodges In the state, all but ono ot which have reported. At 11 o'clock this morning there was a meeting of the Nebraska Veterans' associa tion, at which five new members wcro ad mitted. The meeting was followed by a banquet at noon. Invaluable to Mothers.
