ot collecting $1,000 back taxes tin set up
to tbe standard promised by the advertise
ments, a fact dus to tbe unexpected Inter
vention ot a constable from Justice
Altstadt's court with a writ of replevin.
On this writ he took most of the articles
that had been advertised tor sil. Lei
than a doten "exhibits" remained and these
sold for a paltry $27.
It remains now to be determined whether
the action in replevin was taken In good
faith, or whether It was a ruse by the re
sourceful Slobodlsky to forestall the city la
tne collection of his personal taxes.
He alleges that the goods taken by ths
conetable are under a mortgage held by
Nels Seieroe, a brick manufacturer, said to
bo associated with Slobodlsky in buttons.

gineer's office for the construction of a
system of sewerage tor Walnut and Clifton
Hills. It will be possible to give Clifton
Hill an outlet through the North Omaha
sewer, but Walnut Hill Is located west ot
tbe natural divide and Its sewago must ba
disposed of otherwise.
City Engineer Rosewater favors the con
struction of a septic tank for the disposi
tion of all Aewage from Walnut Hill and
other portions ot tbe city which He west of
Fortieth street Such a tank could ba
made to accommodate tbe entire valley
west ot the city. Dundee could dispose of
Its sewage by this means. Several
residents ot that town have consulted with
the city authorities concerning the ad
visability ot providing a plant which will
accommodate tbe west portion ot Omaha as
well as Dundee.

bert Mcintosh, colored boys, were arraigned
In police court yesterday for the larceny
of a keg ot beer from one of Krug's de
livery wagons near the Crelghton-Orpheum
yesterday afternoon. The first pleaded not
guilty and his case was continued. The
others admitted the theft and were fined $10
and costs each. When tbe keg was stolen
the boys rolled It down the alley for a
block through the bait-frozen snow and
mud. leaving a trail to plain that It could
cot be mistaken. Detectives Heelan and
Johntoa were detailed on the case and fol
lowed up the trail, arriving Just In time o
find the lads around (be keg preparing to
tap It, and the arrests followed.
