CHICAGO, Dee. 2-S. Hrm cable, lighter
receipts and n reduction In ArKCtitlno ship

closing ',4o over yesterday. May corn closed
unchanged and Mny ontst io higher. Pro
visions ut tlio closo were iUylUa better In
price.
Savo for a few moments at tho start, tlio
government report Issued after closing yes
terday woHted Its bearlshtiess on tho ilosert
nlr. Tho general opinion beforo business
began was that thero would bo Imposing
amounts of long stuff for snlo consequent
to tho Kovrrnment figures, and those who
wanted to buy held off from a recession In
prices. May opened Wic lower at i2Hc
to 72r, nervously touched 72StT7Z4C find
then dropped to 72V72He. Tho unloading
of wheat thnt had been expected had failed
to materialize. Tho course of tho market
thereafter developed tho fact that It had
been oversold, lllds for wheat served
mostly to keep the price an elusive fraction
away till May had fully recovered. Even
at tho top price, 73'ifl73V. offerings were
only moderate and tho close was llrm and
Ac hlKher at 73.e. Local shorts did tho
greater part of the buying; they were In
fluenced by llrm Liverpool and 1'arls cables

tho VVnshlngton report bulls gathered sqmo
comfort. They IlKurcd domestlo require
ments at .".'JO.ooo.irtO bushels and European
fit 200,000,(0). Inasmuch as tho report shows
a crop of only r22,0U'MJO bushels, they saw
nothing but higher prices. Tho volume of
trado was not largo, nor was It at any tlmo
more than moderately brisk. Chicago re
ceipts were? llii curs, one of contract grade.
Minneapolis and Uuluth reported 228 cars,
compared with 3-10 last week and 333 n year
ago. 'rbo aggregate of western receipts at
prlmnry points wero G07.000 bushels, against
4l!),0n0 liiishcls last year. ArKentlno ship

against 630,000 bushels tho previous week
and G52.0OO bushels a year ago. Exporters
reported twenty-llvo loads taken, Seaboard
clearances In wheat and Hour wore equal to
2.VUKI0 bushels.
Corn was moderately actlvo at the open
ing, but became dull and narrow later. Tho
government report, estimating tho season's
production nt :U05,(KW.00O bushels, was ap
parently against tne nuns, nut mere were
many who thought theso llgures only enm
mensuratu with tho vastness of present-day
requirements. Tho opening wns easy, but
the market steadied later on moderalo
country offerings and In sympathy with tho

CATTLE Another day of unusually llcht
receipts marked tho trndo in beef cattle,
only n few bunches of fed stock received
nnd few of tlicso of decent quality. The
mnrket showed little, If nny, change from
that of yesterdny, but for tho week prices
on beef stock show a good advance over
last week. Today the market, while ciulet.
was practically steady on beef steers.
i'rnciicaiiy mo samo condition prevailed
on the market for cows and heifers nnd
butchers' stock that was apparent In tho
fat steer trudc, prices showing no chnngo
from those prevailing on equal grades
yesterday. There were only a few loads of
butcher stock received, and, whllo thero
was no special activity to tho market, thn
moderato number hero chanced hands In
very good season.
Tim rresn arrivals or stock cnttio wero of
a necessity small, but tne number received
fully met tho requirements of the market.
Receipts have been light tho entire week,
but business, ns a rule, in tho feeder
division has been dull nevertheless. The
demand from yurd traders has been suf
ficient to tnko care of tho small arrivals
from day to day, but prices have not been
very satisfactory.
Few rango cuttle nro' coming nt tho
present time. Ah most of these nro cows,
heifers and slock steers, prices correspond
with tho market on equal grades of native
stock. Representative solos:
