MOVEMENTS OF STOCKS AND HOJfI9.
Continued Movement of Currency to
Interior Prom tars Active Market.
NEW YORK. Doc. 6. Today's mnrkot
somowhat reversed tho speculative condi
tion of vesterdav. Tho early part of the
day showed a conOuuanco of the reac
tionary tondency. lyondon tooit us cue
from tho depression hero yesterday and
sold tho Americans, offerings from that
sourco amounting to some .30,000 shares.
Tho professional traders also continued
bearish and sold stocks short, but It bo
camo obvious during tho course of the day
that them was no urgent nresduro to Haul-
dnte. Tho decline, In prices brought no
Inrga ofTorlntrs nnd thu bears worn disin
clined 011 tilts account to pursUo their
campaign. Consequently they bought to
cover their contracts nnd turned tho mnr
kot upward. Tho recovery was ticipcu ty
strength In n few stocks, but whether tho
upwnrd courso of prices lato In tho dny waa
duo generally to any, other causo than tho
laKing or. pear proutM on tile snort snies
which wero Invited by yesterday's weak
ness remains to bo seen.
Tho developments in tho money market,
which Is tho truo tndox of speculation at
prcsont, contlnuo n gal list tho presumption
of nctlvo speculation. ' Call money rates
went to 6 per cent again today and the
movement of currency to the interior con
tinues unabated. Today $200,000 waa trnns
ferrcd through tho subtreasury to Chicago
and $276,000 to Now Orleans. This rati of
depletion Is far too largo to permit of any
oxiensivo credit expansion by now xorK
financial Institutions nnd would not ra
qulro a long continuation to force a sharp
contraction of loans, it will bo romem
bored that, In tho period of repression pre
ceding til ii election, bankers wero practic
ally unanimous In tho opinion that re
sources must bo conserved for tho enlarged
requirements or business arter election.
Tho outpouring of credits nftcr aluctlon,

overwhelm nil demands and forco ail caay
money rate, In splto of tho furious specula
tion which raged for soverat weeks. Bo,
after enormous Inroads havo been mado
by such speculative, commitments as well
ns by Investment In securities upon avail
able credits, tho expected demand for
money Is manifesting Itself. The move
tnent of currency to the Interior, which has
continued on n largo scale now for tho
best part of a week, and tho. very large
volumo of interior bank clearings, nro a
plain Indication of the nctlvo neel for
money through tho country. An nctlvo
money market Is generally expected be
weon now and tho llrst of tho year, after
which tho January disbursements aro ex
pected to make for easier money. A loan
contraction by Now York banks Bocms,
therefore, hluhlv nrobable. nnd the effect
on tho stock market will bo measured by
tho financial resources of thoso holding
stocks. A period of duletudo In specula
tion and a urudual llauldatlon of weak ac
counts Is an Imtwrtant safeguard against
such a liquidation.
j no strung points in today a markot wero

Sugar was very feverish nnd after rallying
from early weakness to about a point over
last night it lost tho gain again In a fow
minutes. Tho Amalgamated Copper Bhares
had un extremo decline of Hi boforo Hhow
Ins any resistance, but they strongly re
covered over half tho loss.
liuslncss was better sustained In bonds
than In stocks and flomo Imoortant trains

The commercial Advertisers London
financial cablegram Bays: Tho markets

held tho prlco fairly firm. Americans wero
neglected and heavy. London bought Erles
and Atchlsons, but New York discouraged
an advance, and the closo was at tho worst.
Tho announcement of nn Issue of treasury

CATTLE RecclptB of cattle today wero
not heavy, and as the demand was In good
ehapo ail around tho market was fully
steady und fairly active. Thwo wero nbou:
forty cars of cornfed steers on sale, and
whlfo thero wero a good many of them on
tho common order still there wero several
loads of pretty fair cattle. The demand
for the better grades wan good and prices
ruled steady to strong. Ono Lunch sold
as high as $5.45. and another brought $6.35.
Thcro was llttlo difficulty experienced In
getting satisfactory prlcos for the good
stuff, but the half fat cattlo were neglectel
tho same ns usual. Prices on that class
did not show much chango.
Buyers all seemed to want a few cows
and nought up the thirty loads offered nt
practically yesterday's prices. About . nil
that could be said of the market Is thnt
tho good kinds, as welt as the canners and
medium grades,, all brought Just about
steady prices, as the demand eeemod to bo
sufficient to take all that was offered. Thu
pens were cleared in good season, the mar
ket being fairly active.
Not much chango was noticeable In tho
feeder trado. Yard traders wanted choice
heavyweights and wero willing to pay
good strong prices In order to get them.
The demand from tho country has been
fairly good so far this week, and not many
cattle nave been carried over from day to
day. The light and common kinds nro not
sought after, and sellers havo more diffi
culty In disposing of that kind of stuff,
but still they brought Just about steady
prices. Stock cows and heifers also sold
about tho samo as yesterday, and so did
stock bulls and stock calves.
Thoro wero only a few western rango
cattlo on tho markot, nnd almost no beef
steers nt all. Such as were offered broueht
good strong pries If they were of desirable
quality. Tho cows and feeders sold Just
about In tho samo notches as they did
yesterday. Representative sales:

HOGS There waa only a fair supply of
hogs on sale today and ns tho local demand
was In good shape and reports from other
points favorablo the market here wus gen
erally lOo higher. Buyors started but bid
ding only 60-fftc higher and succeeded In
Rotting several loads at $4.75, but tho mar
ket soon firmed up. with tho bulk of tho
hogs selling at $4.7504.80 and the long string
at It. 77ft. It was a good, uctlvo market
ffrom start to finish nnd practically every
thing was sold In good season. As high as
$4.82ft was paid for a prima load of heavy
hogs.
As will bo seen from tho table of avcrago
prices, the market Is now at the highest
point reached slnco November 26 and Is
almost ns high as It was two weeks ago
today. Representative sales:
SHEEP Tho sheep markot was In hardly
as good shapo at it was yesterday. Other
points reported Blow and weak markets and
about tho samo conditions existed hero.
Bomo sales woro made that looked about
steady and others wero undoubtedly lower.
Wethers sold ns high ns $4.10 and lambs
at $5.00. It was a slow, druggy market and
it was late boforo the pens were cleared.
Feeders also sncmed to bo a llttlo wak
In sympathy with the market on fat stuff
and tho trudo was slow. Tho demand
seemed to bo as large as ever, but buyers
did not take hold with as much life ns
usual and tho morning wns well advanced
beforo much of anything wns done.
