the partner of the dead robbor who held up
tho Kansas City train 011 the Durllngton
Wednesday night of last week. Tho arrest
was mailt, by Town Marshal Hatty Thursday
ovenlng. Spurllng was taken from a freight
ear loaded with potatoes for the eastern
market. In which he wub stealing a ride to
Chicago.

feet tall and weighs In the neighborhood of

lhal Matty's curiosity most, however, was
that Spurllng was wearing a red sweater

llng. They expressed doubts as to Spurllng
being the. mun they wanted, but requestod
that ho bo detained until evening, bo that
he could bo Inspected by others who had
been notified ot the arrest. Deputy Sheriff
Long of Avoca, when asked ovnr His tele
phono yesterday afternoon about the nrrost,
stated that Spurllng wna evidently not tho
man wnnted and that he would be allowed
to proceed on his way.

gram.) There was a crowd nttcndlng the
carnival today estimated at over 15,000.
The streets wero jammed from early morn
ing until Into at night. The feature ot
tho day was tho Moral parade and It was
a tremendous success. Thero were about
twenty vehicles, Including Inndnus, tan
dems nf twos nnd threes, pony rigs and
phuetons, etc.. In line. Tho affair was
made quite 11 society event and the women
of the city have been dovotlng much time
nnd skill to tho making of tho parade the
success it was. Tho reward for double
carriage was given to ono decorated nnd
driven by Misses Harlan, Downs, Fannie
nnd Minnie Hlock. It was a handsome,
snowball turnout, with the women and
all tho trimmings in white, except a deli
cate touch of gi'eeu. Tho second piizo
wns given to the striking red turnout
of Misses McWald, Conord, Hockafollow
and Love. In tho singles tho first was
given to Mrs. Ira Shoudy, who hnd hnud
hoiiio yellow chrysanthemum decorations.
