Louis Robeson, a Union Pacific brake
man, narrowly escaped assassination Tues
day evening while coming east from Grand
Island on extra No. 773. At Lock wood he
put off four tramps who were endeavoring
to beat their way to Omaha. After having
twice commanded the tramps to get off, he
announced that If they did not comply ho
would ho obliged to put them off At this
suggestion tho tramps rolled off, but as
they did so one of their number drew a re
volver and fired at Iloblneon. eaylng, "I'll
fix you ho that you will not put
off anyone else." As he saw the
movement, Robinson escaped the shot
by Jumping between the cars and
tho mlsallo burled itself in the car cIobo by.
A second shot broke the globe of his lantern
and he cscap'd thrro other shots by flight
upon tho opposite side of tho cars. Seurch
was made Immediately -afterward for the
tramps, but they had fled.
