CHICAGO, Aub. 11. The feature of the
apcculutlvo markets on the Hoard of Trade
wis dullness. Tho tone, however, wni
steady. Wheat closed Uc lower, corn Mc
higher, outs a shade up nnd provisions
lirlnclpally unchanged.
Wheat opened easy; the northwest rains
had ahollt ceased nnd the Illinois state
report made the yield 12.000,000, compared
with the Rovcrnment cstlmntc of 15,000,000.
This nave the solllm? n mnjorlty when
tradltiK began nnd September opened nt
7taif(717s. c under the closlnn price yes
terday. Liverpool meanwhile wiw showInK
firmness, opening Hff'id higher nnd nd
vanclns fractionally later. This was en
couraging to the hulls und Induced cover
ing by scalping shorts. Corn was exhib
iting strength which proved Inlluentlnl.
Trading was mostly local and on scalping
orders, but the market managed to ascend
by slow degrees, September rallying to
i.VHe. On the bulge scnlpers took profits
nnd somo reaction followed, the closing
being easv, September lie tinder yesterday
nt "Vifi'te. The cash business was not
brisk; 300,000 bushels were worked. The
seaboard reported M londs taken for ship
ment. Seaboard clearances In wheat nnd
flour were equal to 325,000 bushels. Primary
receipts aggregated 1,071,000 bushels, com
pared with B12.0O0 bushels Inst year. Min
neapolis nnd Dululh reported rvo cars,
against 210 last week nnd 20.S a year ago.
Local receipts were Wi cars, 5.1 of con
tract crude
Corn was llrm. hut dull; the strength was
almost entirely duo to the scarcity of old
corn and not to unfavorable prospects for
the next crop, such news as came to the
board concerning the coming crop being
favorable. Contract corn for the week
showed n decrease of !Ki0.O00 liuslieln, which
leaves about 250,000 bushels, not Including
corn loaded or being londcd. To this and
the excellent spring demand traders were
Inclined to pay considerable attention nnd
the result was an nilvance, a good part of
which was held. September sold between
37,c nnd .TSUc closing He Improved, nt
37c. Receipts were 21D cars. Country uc
eeptanceii showed some falling off.
Oats were dull, but steady, In sympathy
with corn, nnd receipts continued lanje.
but so did the shipments. Receipts today
were WIS car" September sold between
SlSe and 21Tc, closing a shade up, at
21tfj.21;c.
Provisions had the assistance of the
corn llrmness, light hog receipts and ad
vance at Liverpool of M for Cumberland
cut bacon and n better demand for hogs,
but at that the market did not Improve
materially. Trade was i it lot . although the
cash demand for lard was reported better.
September pork sold between !ll.f2'i and

sellers held their stocit nt good strong

more freely and canners changed hands at
about tho same prices that wero paid yes-

The demand for feeders was ngaln In
good shano and as the sunnlv wan tint
excessive, nrloes were ngaln a little
stronger. The yards were mil of buyers
and as a result comnatltton was keen on
the better grades of heavy cattle. The
mnrket as a whole may safely bo called
a good quarter higher than It was on
last Thursday, which was tho low point
of the week, so that prices are now nearly
back where they wero before the slump.
Stock cows and heifers are also a good
10fll5c hltther than they were last week
and stock calves nnd bulls have also ad
vanced sharply.
Western grass cattle were not very plen
tiful this mornlnu, but the killers wero
picked up at steady to strong prices. Cows
also moved freely at strong prices and the
same Is true of feeders.

HOOS-The supply of hogs today was
rather light, being the smallest Tuesday
run there has been In several months. The
ilemtiiid on the part of packers wus good,
but thev did not wunt to pay morn than
they did yesterday and the light receipts
made sellers hold their drove at good,
strong prices. It wns rather late for that
reason before many nf the hogs had
changed hands. The preference for light
hogs was again very noticeable tb.Ii morn
ing, most or the early bids being on the
light weights, while the heavy load wero
left until the last. When the hogs did be
gin to change hands It wns generally on a
basis of a 2'jC advance. Light hogs sold
largely at $5.00 or better, while' the neavler
grades hrnught from $l.92',fc to $l.9i'i$, with
most of them irolng nt $4.95 and Jl.i'4.
The Inst end of the market wns no,
particularly strong, though It was the lc
desirable lomls that wero left. Th heavy

SHEEP-There wns the largest run or
sheep here today that has arrived In s'veral
months. Packsrs. however, were liberal
buyers nnd the market as a result was In
good shape taking everything Into con
sideration. Lambs were active nnd brought
steady to stronger prices. Sheep, though,
were n little dull nnd weak and In some
cases probably a dime lower. The demand
for feeders was heavy again today nnd
nrrlvals were light, but prices wero about
tho same ns yesterdny.
