Immediately after the cull prices eased off

( ATTLK There was 11 light run of cattle
in ine yarns toii.iy, composed mostly 01
beef steers. Markets at other points wore
none too favorable, but the light supply
hero held prices about steady. Packers
seemed to want all that was here, anil us
11 result the yards were practically cleared
at un cany Hour. The hotter ltsi n were
of course, In greater demand, and the feel
ing on that kind of cattle Is considerably
better than it was two days ngo. Common
sum is sun neglected and prices weak
nml uniiven.
There were nbout two loads of cows nnd
neirers on sale today. Oood stuff sold Just
about the same ns It did yesterday, but
canners and common stiilr m.iv he snfe v
quoted dull and lower. There wns no par
ticular cnange in onus or calves.
The feeder trade remains nearly nt
standstill, and what few cattle on that
oruer are Dcing received are slow sale at
any price, as no one seems to wunt them.

John Watson, a grlmlcd Mlscourl farmer,
appeared at the county Judge's office yes
terday in n frtlltlots nuest for his daugh
ter. Miranda. Tho girl, who Is 17 eara old,
took advantago of her father's absence at
tho Kansas City convention to elope with
a farm hand formerly employed at the Wat
eon homestead near Cedar (lap. Mo. Tho
father traced tho errant pair to Springfield,
Mo., where ho nsccrtatiicd lliut they had
taken passage to Omoha. Ho has so far
been unable to find nny written evidence of
their marrlngo and hoped that some record
would appear in tho license book nt tho
county court. Hn was disappointed.
Watton says ho noticed several weeks ago
that 0110 of his hired men. Jason Wilson,
was pronounced In his attention to his
daughter, nnd at onro discharged tho as
piring suitor. Wilson secured employment
In n neighboring sawmill, howevor. and evi
dently bided his time. Ho woro n brilliant
shirt front with a tlo tucked to one sldo to
display a largo stone, and was evidently In
high favor with the furmcr's daughter,
Watson, however, had promised his daughter
tho homestead nnd l0 acres of land addi
tional to that granted the other children if
she would remain single to cheer his de
clining years. Ho trusted In his daughter's
good sense, and did not regard Wilson as a
serious menace. So he went to the conven
tion, leaving Miranda with a stdnster aunt.
When ho returned he found the maiden
aunt In a frenzied condition. The only traco
of Miranda wns a brief, defiant note. Sho
didn't care for the homestead and the 160
acres. All she wanted was Jason. All Mr.
Watson hopes for now is that tho girl has
been married. He will make such a search
for her as Mr. Peggotty mndo for Emily, and
the caso will bo laid heforo tho police.
