Convention Was for Hill.
OMAHA, July Si To the Editor of The
Dee: It was not necessary for one to go
outside of the fair and impartial corre
spondence of The Bee "on the sprt ' to know
that the late Kansas City convention was
for Hill. But for Oklahoma and the Sand
wich Islands, with two votes agalntt rele
gating silver to the rear In the platform,
everybody could see who read It with care
that the intrepid leader of New Y'ork would
have been the candidate, and. as I believe,
the next president of the United States. It
would have happened in something like this
way
The majority report of the committee on
resolutions would have recommended to the
convention a simple reaffirmation of the Chi
cago platform, omitting specific mention of
the holy ratio of 1C to 1. A minority report
would have been made by the radical ele
ment, Fpcaking for Mr. Bryan. Mr. Towne
and other populists, recommending 1C to 1.
Great excitement arising In an animated
debate, charges and counter-charges would
have followed Friends of Bryan would
have declared that be would not accept the
nomination with the holy declaration omit
ted. Texanr, Georgians and other south
erners, who were more at heart for Hill,
would have accepted the Issue. Governor
Hill's name would have been presented by
them und he would have been nominated
on the socond ballot.
The Kansas City convention was for Hill.
