gram.) The fifth annual tournament of the
Moplo Valley Flrcman'.u association at Ida
Grove today was a decided success. Over
C.000 people wero In attendance. Mnpleton,
Odobolt, Schallcr, Onawa, Early, Ida Grove,
Logan, Battle Creek, Missouri Valley, Hol
stcln, Carroll nnd Danbury were In the pa
rade, which was very fine. Logan received
tho prlzo for appearance nnd Odebolt for the
largest delegation.
Tho straighnwny hose face was won by
Missouri Valley In 24 seconds; Mapleton
second. In 27 seconds. Onnwa failed to
carry their hoso on their cart and wero dis
qualified. In tho association race Missouri
Valley, Mapleton, Schallcr and Onawa ran
nnd received no time on account of defectlvo
couplings. On tho second trial of this race
Missouri Valley won in 30 seconds, Maple
ton 32 4-5 nnd Onawa In 27 flat. This gives
Onawn tho championship bolt, which now
becomes their property, they having won It
three times and they cannot contend again
for two years. Tho hub and hub race was
divided between Onawa and Missouri Val
ley. Mapleton won tho running nnd stand
ing coupling contests. Schnller won tho
uraateur race In 32 2-5; Early second in

stormy business ecoslon of tho congra of
tho music teachers' natlonnl convention held
this noon. Tho principal fight was for pres
ident, Mr. Manchester being named to rep
resent tho east and Dr. Bartlett of this city
being the western nominee. Tho contest
resulted In a hot fight over Dr. Dartlctt and
the subsequent victory of 'Manchester.
The cast also captured most of the othor
offices, to such an extent. Indeed, that II. S.
Perkins of Chicago announced that he would
carry the matter Into tho convention tomor
row and oppcee the election of Mr. Fowler
of New Havon, Conn. Ho was pressed to
nomlnato a western man nnd to announce
whom bo would support. He had been
J named himself beforo by Mrs. Fannie Church
' Parsons of Chicago, but declined.' Porklna
then announced that he would support Fred
eric G. Gleason of Chicago and he was ac
cordingly placed In nomination.
Tho convention tomorrow will have to de
cide as to tho treasury. Tho offices were
nominated by a committee conalstlng of two
delegates from each state.
