T'ie members; of the Thumton Hlfles are
feeling some uneasiness over their nnnuiil
encampment, an oiillng which has been
valued as highly by the young militiamen
as the Christmas (rco by Hip Sundiy school
scholar. Thp First regiment has no
tangible light to exist and is only pro
visionally outlined hy Hie governor nnJ
adjutant general pending the action of the
legislature.
"The legislature will, of cailisc, be asked
to pay tho $20,000 spent In transporting tho
regiment from the coast." said Captain
Slockham of the rlllcs. "nnd may not feel
able lo spend any more money for an en
campment. There aro nbout SOO men In the
newly formed First regiment, and their
transportation to Lincoln ami maintenance
for n week would cost several thousand dol
lars. The adjutant general has alre.idy ad
vanced n complete set of uniforms to the,
company without any authority from tho
legislature. Tho Omulin Guards, of course,
are practically assured of nn encampment
because of their membership In the Second
regiment. An inquiry has been made of tho
governor nnd the matter will probably be
settled within a few days."
The Thurston Rifles are making prepara
tions to oluervo Decoration day on an ade
quate scale. The bodies of thoir four mem
bers killed In the Philippines nnd brought
to this city have been removed from thfl
receiving vault and Interred In the com
pany Int. On the morning of May 30, the
company, accompanied hy all of the Eighth
army corps In this vicinity will accompany
the friends of the dead soldiers to tho
graves nnd suitable ceremonies will be ob
served. An effort will be launched at this
time to secure funds for tho erection of
a granite memorial on the company's lot.

tho situation. "Tho reduced rules will ha

will have no advantage over Kansas City or
other competing Jobbing points for tho ma
