CATTIiE-Somcthlng llko tlfty or sixty
loads of cornfed beeves wero on sale this
morning, among tho numbor there being
quite a good many right good fat cattle.
Tho market as a whole did not present any
new features of importanco and the wholo
story could be told by calling It a good,
steady and fairly active market. If any
thing, tho neavy cattle were the best sell
ers today, while tho demand for light
cattle was not quite so active o It has
been on some days of late. Still there
was a pretty good demand for all kinds
nnd the pens were practically cleared In
good season, There were some cattle In
the yards good enough to bring $5.10. which
Is tho 'highest price paid since Friday of
last week
The matket 011 cows nnd heifer did not
show much change as compared with yes
terday Buyers seemed to want the few
loads on sale and It did not take them
long to effo-ct a clearance. The prices
i-r.ld will be noted from the sales below.
Hulls, stags nnd other rough stock sold
In about tho same notches a yesterday.
Thero were not many stockers or feeders
In tho yards today. The speculators had
a few left over from yesterday, but the
supply In first hands was small. Thin
cattlo seem to be In very good demand
and the market Is as high ns any time.
The season Is now so far advanced that
warmed-up cattle are not In as good de
mand as they were a few weeks ago for
feeders and still there Is some inquiry.
Today there was a buyer In from tho
country wanting a big bunch of cattle to
go on Immediate feed.
HOGS For 11 Friday there was a fair
run of hogs, but none too many to supply
the very good demand which has been
developed at this point of late. Reports
from other markets, however, were ngalnst
the sellers so far ns prices were concerned
nnd the market was about 5c lower. Sell
ers were a little slow about making any
concession, so that the market was dull
at th decline and the morning was well
advanced before a clearance was effected.
The early bids wero generally at $3.35 for
tho best mixed hogs, with now and then a
hid of $5.37405.10 for something extra good
and heavy. Shortly after the market
opened buyers lowered their hands nnd
began talking $5.37405.35 for good loads,
some buyers giving it out that they wanted
a drove of hors to cost not to exceed
$5,324, In other words they began bidding
5f?74c lower. Sellers were determined nnd
held on, so that oventunlly buyers who
really wanted the hogs were forced to pay
prices that on an averace were 5c lower
than yesterday.
The real situation Is easily understood
when It Is known that tills market has
been way above all other markets for
several davs past. Today buyers seemed
to feel that this market ought to be brought
nearer Into lino with other markets nnd
they were determined to bear It for that
reason,
SHEEP There were only a very few
loads here today and of the number re
ported In there were four cars consigned
direct to a packer, leaving only one car of
ewes and two cars of wooled yearlings to
be offered for sale. In additions there
wero a few cars of holdovers, but not
enough to cut much tlgure on the market.
Tho market was very slow and dull.
Packers claim that the market for tho
dressed product In the east Is vry slow
and at the same Mine loral aackers all
appear to '-ave some shrep on hand, so
that the demand for all kinds ?r;""H
