center of town. The lynching grew out

Telegram.) M. D. Hoagland, who has been
engaged in -tho. grocery -business in Hast
ings for sovoral yenrs, mysteriously disap
peared last night and nothing has been seen
or hoard of him since.
Ho wns last seen In his store at 10 o'clock
last night. Mr. Hrlcn, who Is associated
with Mr. Hoagland In business, says tho
business nffalrs are all right, and ho cannot
ncccunt for his sudden disappearance.
Mr. Hoagland Is secretary of tho Loyal
Mystic Legion lodge of this city and handles
nbout $800 of their money every month. Ho
hns been a llttlo delinquent In making set
tlcmcnts each month, and It Is thought that
ho has used this monthly Income In his
business and cannot make proper settlement
with tho ledge. This alono accounts for his
disappearance.

Knrmer Accidentally Shot.
ALI1ION, Neb., March 23. (Special.)
Sherman Hahn, living six miles southwest
of Albion, accidentally shot himself yes-
torday afternoon by the dlschargo of a
shotgun while unloading a wagon in which
the gun lay. The discharge took effect In
the right groin and hip. A doctor was called
nnd dressoJ the wound, which was a fright
ful one. being from 'No. 2 shot. It was a
glancing shot, the most of which took effect
in tho bone, although six of the shot struck
Ms watch and glanced to the loft, penetrat
ing tho abdominal muscles and possibly tho
Intestines. Mrs. Hahn was In Albion and
was Immediately sent for. The doctor says
that he has a fighting chance for his life.

Tho faculty of Uellcvuo coliege havo ex
pelled W. E. Hannan, a student of that In
stitution, and severely censured several
others, for disorderly conduct in the boys'
hall Tuesday night. Several persons from
Omaha roomed in tho ball that night, and
shortly after 12 o'clock the students rolled
dumbbells along the corridors and played
a number of practical Jokes on tho guests.
Tho young man expelled wns a prominent
student of tho collego nnd was studying for
tho ministry. A number of students held
a meeting today and expressed Indignation
at tho action taken by tho faculty.

follower, both ho and his wlfo being zealous

Mrs. Flgg was able to resumo her house
hold dutlca this morning, though her nerves
aro badly shattered. Like her husband she

Fremont Soldier Killed.
FREMONT, Nob., March 23. (Special.)
Tho news of tho death ot Prlvnte William
Newlon of Company H. Thlrty-nlnth United
States volunteers, who lived in Fremont at
tho dato of his enlistment, has been con
firmed by a dispatch frn Congressman
Robinson, In which he states that he has re
ceived a cablegram from General Otis stat
Ine that Newlon was killed January 17 cn
the trail between Ibann and Rosarlo. He
was shot In tho head and killed Instantly
Newlon's name has never appeared in the
official llstu of casualties.
