CHICAGO, March 13 -Mny corn declined
shado over u cent early today on protli

closing steady, Hr under yesterday.
Wheat was heavy, Influenced by hfnvy re
crlptH and a poor speculative demand, Mny
rinsing -Vfic down. Oats rinsed Mj'ie
lower nml provisions 2',jf(10o depressed.
The crowd In the corn pit was murli
renter tlian It has been at any other time
for n year, not even excepting yesterday,
when the 2c bulge mnde the coarse cereal
th cynosuro of speculative eyes. The
Jirlce was controlled liy two Influences at
Various limes sales for prollt nnd covering
iy shorts. May opened ar over yesterday
lit 3SM)3SV Then the excitement began,
j.ongs who had gathered In the sheaves
months hbo came Into the pit and reaped
Ihelr reward or as much of It as they
deemed It advisable to take at present. It
was estimated that many hundreds of thou
sands of dollars were taken out of sales
today. Meanwhile May was shooting down
Trom first llgures to 37'ic, a drop of 11(l's'
Iroin the, opening. At the decline the e
rltemcnt abated to a degree and shorts.
Who had waited to avoid covering on the
liulge, began to protect themselves against
mother ascent, l'ndcr this Influence and
with the light country offerings und higher
cables In mind, May recovered gradually
to 37Mj38e. Later the market reacted to
fcT'iir, where It steadied and closed, 'Vc'1''
under yesterday. Liverpool was up Id t"r
ipnt and liil'id for futures. Primary re
relpts were 777,000 bushels, compared with
I23,(i00 n year ago. Atlantic port clearances
Were 531,(X) bushels. Local receipts were t!M
cars, 186 cars tinder the estimate. New
York reported 21 loads taken for export,
fash sales from here were put at lO.nOO
bushels and Philadelphia, reported foreign
ers bidding nt the advance. The statlotlcul
rdtuiitlnu remained practically unchanged
The wheat market was unlet and rather
lieavy, suliordlnate to corn all day. May
opened 'do over yesterday at MVitWiC In
fluenced by higher cables from Liverpool
anil from Paris, und with tho corn strength.
The break In corn, lower late cables and the
lieavy northwest receipts, together with
rroflt-tnklng by traders, caused a reaction,
following the opening. May declining from
r,r,ijp, which tho market touched shortly
lifter the opening, to iri(ffiiV,c. The close
was heavy. May .Vu',4c lower at 65'c. The
cash business was encouraging. "fta.Oifl
liushels being sold from here direct to
Liverpool, while. New York reported 11 loads
taken for export. Atlantic port clearances
In wheat and flour were equal to l"()Ol
liushels. Primary lecelpts were 6S9.0K)

iipolls and Pulilth reported 932 cars, against
f,67 last week nnd 6S5 a. year ago. Local re
ceipts were S3 cars, 1 of contract grade.
The oats market furnished the unusual
spectacle for It of Home activity and
Htrengtb early, Influenced by wheat and
corn. The exhibition was nf short dura

the market declined nnd the wimlup was
rather weak. Local receipts were 52s cars.
May ranged from 21c to 21M(23'i,c and

In the stntement of merchandise exports

CATTLE Receipts were the largest for
some days and ns prices have been held up
pretty high as compared with other market
points, on account of tho light receipts that
have prevailed here for some little time
back. It was not surprising that buyers
should want to take off somethlnc when the
.opportunity of larger receipts was presented,
i The general mnrkel on killing cnttle wns
' lower all along the line In consequence of
inese comimons. or tho cnttle hero six
teen loads were from Knnsns City, con
signed direct to Cudnhy.
Something like fifty loads of beef steers
were on sale, but a good many of them
were only warmed up, so that the feeders
could use them. The market opened a little
slow on fat cattle, as buyers seemed to feel
that there were plenty of cattle for them nil
nnd that there was no use In being In a
hurry. The first bids were genernily con
siderably lower, but It finally settled down
to a market that would have to be quoted
ns weak to 19c lower. A good many of the
cattle were not overly desirable and the
market, too, was rather uneven, so that
operators were of somewhat different
opinions, hut they all agreed that It was n
little lower.
Cows and heifers. If right desirable, sold
pretty well, while some of the less desirable
stuff wns neglected a little, but the general
market would have to be quoted the same,
as the market on beef steers that Is. weak
to )0o lower. Hulls were rather slow and
weak. Veal calves sold at tlrm prices.
There seemed to be n pretty good demand
for good kinds of feeders and the market
wns strong. Feeder buyers took a good
many of the warmed-up cattle, being better
buyers In many Instances than the packers.
The most of the feeding cattle changed
bands early, but It was rather late before
killing cattle weie all disposed of. Reprc
