J.liltililutlon on the bulge became so exces
sive , however , tliat the ilcmnnd was wlth-
ilrawn and tlin market turned suddenly
ivcnk. From Hint point until the end the
course was downward. I'ut flRUres were
reached without meeting any opposition
nnd this fact alone lidded Impetus to the
celling movpmcnt. The main factor ot
weakness wns the rapid Increase In the
domestic visible , the Indications being that
an addition of over 1,000,000 would bo mndo
during thu week. Light clearances , slow
cash dpmand and tlin reported Improved
Chicago recelveil 133 cars , twenty-live of
which graded contract. Mlnneaiiolls nnd
Dulnth got 718 ears , compared with CIS the
same day last week and 1W2 u year ago.
Total western primary receipts were 745,000

port clearances In wheat and Hour equated
226,000 bu. Argentine shipments of wheat
during the week were 792,000 bu. , ngalnst

responding week last year. The crop out
look In that country won still pronounced
excellent , with the Indications that fully
80,000,000 bu. would be available from this
senson's yield for export.
Diminishing- country offering ! ' , owing to
continued wet weather , strengthened corn
early. An advance or Hd at Liverpool also
encouraged buying , but the market lln.illy
yielded under heavy liquidation , Induced by
n poor cash demand and reports of a serious
blockade at IlulYalo. The market was ac
tive throughout , but closed weak at the
bottom. Receipts. " 11 ears. December

Provisions were slow but firm , Liberal
Hhlpments and a steady ilecrcaio In stocks
encouraged buying of ribs nnd pork nnd
substantial gains were scored. Packers
sold freely of lard , however. January pork

The majority of railroad stocks was slngu- i
larly neglected with the exception of semis ;
early demand for the couthwesterns , which
gave way In the. late weakness. During ,
the llrst two hours of trading there were
but two transactions recorded In St. Paul.
There was some selling for London account ,
but It was well absorbed during the early
period of strength In th'.s market. The re-
uctlonary tendency was due to the gro ng
apprehension of an unfavorable bank state
ment tomorrow. .Money was not stringent ,
but was llrm at Gf8 per cent. The banks

The clearing house Institutions have culled
loans on a large- scale during the week , so
that th'.s loss In cash is offset In part nt
least. Lust Saturday's statement was be
lieved to have made a more favorable showIng -

NEAV YORK. Nov. 3.-COTTON-Tllc
market for cotton futures was very active
all day. with the sentiment strongly bullish
on proof that the crop was to be a short
one and an aggregation of friendly Influ
ences seldom brought together. Favorable
cables and reports that a -vere cold wave
had descended on the cotton belt during-
the night gave shorts every reason for sur
veying their position critically and on the
call the market ruled steady , with llrst
sales o.t an advance of 2fiG points. As the
lay progressed the feeling of uneasiness on
the part of the bears changed to one. of
gmeral alarm , the news stating that the
killing frost had visited most of the belt
within the last twenty-four hours. Invest
ment orders soon began to pour in from
Wall street , New Orleans bought heavily
and Europe snapped up offerings of the far
months. Prices were soon advancing by
lonp and strides , with bullish sentiment
nt fever heat. Encouraging press advices
from the seat of war In South Africa , a
forecast for continued freezing'tempera '
ture over the belt , predictions for still
smaller receipts for the ensuing week and
rumors that dealers In the south wt.ro dis
posed lo hold off for still higher prices aided
In strengthening the prices. The weekly
summaries were- also bullish. In fact , bear
traders had llttlo In the way of news < o
comfort them. The market broke
quite heavily nt times under spurts
lit active profit taking. but re-
acttd and seemingly regained fresh Impetus
on each upturn. At the close the feeling
was firm , with prices showing a net gain
of Gljio points. At the best figures a net
gain of iifjlfi points -was shown on the ac
tive positions.

CATTLE Receipts today were light und
ho offcrlnss on the market were con
siderably lighter than the receipts , as over
forty cars of the number reported In were
consigned direct to packers and not offered
'or saleat all.
'Beef ' steers , both cornfeds and grosser ? ,
were strong to lOc higher. 6ome of the
same cattle that were he.ra yesterday
brought lOo more today and everything that
was at all desirable seemed to be In active
request at good , strong prices. Practically
c-vnrything on sale was disposed of In good
season and the market on fat cattle closed
early for the want of more cattle to sell.
Cows and heifers were also In good de
mand and the market on that kind of cat
tle was steady to strong and reasonably
active , so that pmctlcally everything was
disposed of in good season. Other kinds
ot butchers' stock , bulls , stags , etc. , sold
at steady prices.
The- feeder market , as might be expected ,
was rather slow and dull at the decline al
ready noted , that Is lOJfliic lower on Tues
day. In some cases feeding cattle and
stock calves have sold at even a creator
decline than that noted. The cause for the
dccllno seems to be due to a falling olt In
the country demand , presumably on account
of the farmers all being busy with their
work in the corn fields. Representative

HOGS The market opened slronc this
morning , with the demand good , nnd the
early sales were very largely at $4.0.1. it
will bo remembered that yesterday half
of lh > hogs were nt $ l.02'j or under. For
n little 11 m > the market wns quite nctlvo
for the best loads , until the more urgent
orders were filled , and then buyers began
to talk $ Oil for pretty decent loads. From
that time on until the close the market
was slow nnd I ho flout was easier. The
rausp for the weakness appeared to be the
fact that the market tit this point It too
high as compared with Chicago nnd buyer *
feel that they arc paying too much money
for the hoes. The hogs were finally ill"-
posed of. the late sales being verv largely
