utes and seven seconds over a triangular
course In un eight-knot breeze and a
smooth se-a. The contest was a procession
throughout , with the Columbia leading at
the start by thirteen seconds and training
on every leg of the course , There will be
no more otllclal races , that of today settling
conclusively In the minds of the committee
which of the two boats Is better Iltted to
meet the Shamrock. The cup committee ,
however. Is permitted to di-fer the announc-

The Denver Gulfs made It three straight
from Buck Keith's Brewers Monday In a
game which was a walkaway for the visit
ors. The score was 1C to 6 , and up until
'ho fifth Inning It looked aa though the
rowers were to bo ehut out.
The game started off with the locals at
the bat and Simmons , the crack pitcher , who
shoved tlie ball over the plate the first
game , occupied the box , He sent the sphere '
over the plate with euch velocity that thu
locals merely made frantic lunges at It with
no thought of over eeelng first. Waller ,
however , started things off well by swatting
the 'ball ' away out In center field , and it
looked as though It would be a tmfa hit ,
but It was not ordained that such should be.
flroeno happened to bo out In that center
field picking summer posies and when the I
ball bounded toward ttio northwest from I
Waller's bat Greene started after It llko n i
quarter horse , nnd It fell Into his mitt as Ii
If It had been specifically ordered. Lawlcr
made three violent swipes at the ball , but
bla efforts availed him not. Bradford
touched off a weak and protecting grounder
to Rlley on third , and found the ball at ilrat
whoa he reached that coveted spot. In
Deuvor'fl half U was different. Btrykcr , the
new pitcher whom Iluck had signed , was
dealt with unmercifully. Kleven tlmcn
was he faced by the opposing players during
that inning and eight times did the Gulfs
akttto ( down to llrst and over und anon , on
past to Eccond , either ou safe lilts or by
being hit with the ball. Six runs were
piled up In this Inning ,
For the next three Innings the Brewers ,
who timidly tip-toed up to the pan , f/erc
put out In one , two , three order. In the
second halt of the Eocoml the visitors
continued to toy with thu delivery of
Omaha's new pitcher , McCauulund , thc
first man up , was called out on throa strikes ,
although ho roared at the decision of
Stoney , a member of the Denvers who um
pired the game , and accused him in no un
certain terms of "passing it Into him" for
certain real or Imaginary erlovances. But
be that as It may , Stryker took a fretib.
hltcli in his belt and continued the amateur
ish conduct which be had so forcibly dis
played in the first inning. Ulloy got a
free walk to first and Simmons made a
single , on which Rlley advanced to second ,
Then Stryker got lu his fine Italian hand
again and struck out Hlckoy , but his newly
gained laurels went agllmmorlng when Tay
lor grasped a slat and drove out a home
run , chalking up three more worm. At this
Stryker lost hla head and also control ot
the bull and for the second time gave- Cot
ton free passage to first by hitting him.
This was too much and Stryker was called
out of the box , Drl cell being his successor.
The tilde v/ae retired by Greene , who went
out at first on a weak grounder to the
pitcher's box. In the third Logue went out
at llrst , but McCauttland , Rlley and Sim
mons each chased one another In turn from
base to baee on free rides given them by
DrlBcoll's wild pitching , and t this lie was
deemed unworthy to longer continue In the
box and was replaced by Lawler , Hlckoy
singled and brought McCauslaud home , ad
vancing each of the other base runners ,
The bases were full when Taylor distin
guished himself by making a second home
run und when ba crossed the plate live more
runs had been chalked up , After that J-atv-
lor got down to business and only ono more
ficoro wau made. This was In the fifth when
Hllcy got to tlrut oa an error of Scully at
shnrt , who fumbled a grounder and In dis
gust refused to exert himself by throwing
It to first. Taylor followed with a three-
haggor which brought Rlloy homo and tbo
Uftecnth run was made.
On the Brewera' sldo tbo ice wag broken
